Hi friends!

Just out of curiosity:

I hardly see any Surf Pearl finishes on the standard sales sites, like the *bay and similar.
I also hardly see them in forums.

When I bought this guitar in 2002 it was advertised as "very rare vintage custom finish".
Those days I didn't care, I just liked the look and it played great.

Today I'm wondering: is it really that rare???
So please, let me see your Surf Pearl Strats (Teles welcome as well!). Surf Pearl is Surf Green metallic, a stunning beautyful finish!!

Low and behold: as beautyful as it is, it's not my #1!

Here's mine: 2002 American Hot Rodded Texas Special Strat:

Really. None.

Right on. I didn't know this finish before: I love it! On paper I'd have thought the pearl pickguard might be too much but in the photos I love that too. Nice combo!

Very dark fingerboard, BTW. Is that an especially black piece of rosewood or is it ebony? Sexy, either way.

Smokin' Frets, assuming nobody else crops up with a guitar in this finish that's probably a good thing for you, no? A pretty finish is cool; a pretty finish that few other people possess can only be even better, right?

Cheers - C

There are a few around, but it really isn't a very common finish.

Nice guitar either way, Smokin' Frets! 8)

I'd be tempted to try a black pickguard on it..........

I adore this finish. I missed one last year on eBay, in HSS format.

Love the Texas Special in that colour, the reason they're so rare is because they only made them in that finish for less than a year I think.

There's plenty of Custom Shop Stratocaster Pro models on eBay in that finish, but they have a naaaaaaasty fat headstock. Lucky they did, or I'd probably have one by now, and be in even more debt...

Good score. Please, please let me know if you ever contemplate selling up. It's one for my dream collection. Or I may just try and get my Ol' Red refinished in that awesome colour.

Stunning finish in that light. Makes me all fuzzy to see something besides black or sunburst. (Even though i have both finishes.)

Thank you for your comments, guys.

Looks like I'm the lucky owner of a pretty rare finish.
No, I'm not intending to sell it EVER. This was my very first original US Fender Stratocaster.
I played other brands before that time.

The fretboard was advertised as rosewood but I don't recall if it was a certain kind of rosewood.
It's really pretty dark and I love those very dark fingerboards.

It was this stunning finish which made me buy this strat and I really, really love the look.
Now, after 10 years, the plastic parts have aged a little and the finish got a tiny bit darker than in the pics.

In the meantime I realized my deep love for white Strats but I still fall for one or the other color, like cherry burst, sunst metallic, sienna burst , candy cola....

There's so many cool colors out there.

If you guys can get a hold of a 2001/2002 Hot Rodded Strat from this series, GET IT!
Great production quality and the Texas Specials can get really dirty.
I love to play bluesrock slide guitar on the middle pickup. :D

What year model is that Hot Rod? I have a 2000 (SN Z0...) HR American Series Texas Special in Shoreline Gold. I also have the brochure for the series and that finish is not listed.

This is the first time, that I can recall, seeing this finish. Very cool! I love Surf Green and the looks like a surf green with a white pearl in the clear coat...I am guessing? Wow. Nice score!
