Greetings;
Just aqquired a 2008 select mahogany HSS strat, traded in a mint 86 MIJ to get it.
Does anyone know the production run(how many years?) or number of these guitars that fender made. These have the s-1 switch in the volume knob. Texas specials single coils and the diamondback humbucker bridge pup. Red crimson transparent mahogany body and black gaurd w/matching headstock. Staggered locking tuners and LSR nut.

I found them with serial numbers in the range from 2008-2009 which would mean the FSR (Fender Special Run) was for one year only.
GREAT DEAL, congrats.

Hold on guys .... I just bought a Strat this weekend with the mahogany body, it's the same Strat described by the OP. My serial number starts with US11, so that's a 2011 manufacture date.

The guitar is gorgeous! and the sound is incredible! It was listed on the Guitar Center website as a Fender American Select Strat HSS with Crimson Red Transparent. And the mahogany grain absolutely pops through the finish, looks beautiful with the black pickguard and black headstock and rosewood fretboard.

Where did you see this listed as a Special Run? It makes more sense that these guitars were special runs, rather than a Select, as listed on the GC website. They are not even listed on the Fender.com website at all, so I assume they are out of production now. The only other thing I can think of is that these are Guitar Center exclusives.

Mike - you are correct that these are special run guitars. The very first run might have been made available to multiple dealers (this would be going back to say 2005 -2006 or so) but the later 2008-2009 run was a GC or perhaps GC/MF exclusive run. If you have a 2011 model then I suppose GC/MF commissioned another run of them.

There is come confusion because GC/MF has been calling these "American Select" models since that 2008-2009 run; not to be confused with the new "Fender Select" maple top models.

Yep I agree with John C. I had one in 2006 and at the time they were called mahogany FSR possibly for fender special run. A couple of years later the dealers were calling them select. Incidentally I have also seen a few variants ... one model was SSS with a std nut rather than LSR but had the mahogany body and the black headstock. I also remember seeing some without the S1.

I have a 2005 mahogany FSR strat. I emailed Fender for specs back then. Mine has custom staggered Tex Mex pickups with diamondback humbucker. S-1 switch. LSR roller nut. locking tuners. With contoured heel. Pretty much a deluxe strat except mahogany body and tex mex pickups and black headstock.
Mine is kinda heavy weight wise. but sounds great. Got it from GC in 2006.

Hi, I just bought this model.
Does anyone here know where I find detailed information about this guitar?
