Fender/SKB Case on ebay used costs just as much as getting a brand new one
from sweetwater with free shipping.

I have looked on Craigslist and ebay and guitar center used sections and most want
so much money, that they make it easier to just buy new !

I am looking for the newer ones from 2008 until now with the tsa locks
I bought a used mim strat from GC and it came with a gig bag, but I
would like to get a hard shell case for it.

Ive read that the 99 fender ones made by skb are better quality then the SKB
ones that have no name on them, but are made for strats and cost 129 ???

Can anyone tell me good places that may list used cases for guitars ???
Thanks for your help !!

The allmighty *bay!?

They list used ones all the time, either for buy it know or up for auction.

As you said, the buy it now prices are usually too high, so go for the auctions.

Other than that: local newspapers, check Google, check sales papers online....stuff like that.

You might as well make a bargain if you buy a cheap guitar with case, keep the case and sell the guitar again. I've done that 3 times and each original case (2 black, one Tolex) cost me 50 bucks only.

On the other hand: if you're not a hard gigging musician, get one of the cheap 50 bucks cases new. They're not as stable but still good enough to store a guitar in the house without dragging it around on trucks or busses!

Just get SKB or Fender HSCase.
I got one of those tweeds sent with a guitar.
I hate it. Way too thin and fragile.
They look good, but will get destroyed easily.
I have several hard shell cases. All good.

I just got back from vacation. I wanted to take a guitar with me but everyone said the SKB cases weren't good enough for flying and I never got around to buying a road case. While I was at JFK airport in NY a guy walked by with an SKB case and the whole corner of the black molded plastic was missing and white foam was exposed. I was glad I didn't try to take mine in the stock case. I see road cases on CL for only a little more than the cost of an SKB. FWIW.

Wow! Good to know. I wonder what the material differences
between "road" cases and SKB cases, or if SKB makes "road" cases.
Good comment. Thanks. Toppscore 8)

Topp...You must be abusing your tweed case, the one that came with my '82 57 AVRI has weathered about a hundred gigs with no discernable damage. Quite the opposite in fact it still looks relatively new. I would never discribe Fenders tweed cases as fragile or thin. There are examples out there from the mid fifties still doing duty...and with the exception of tolex vs tweed, the Fender HS cases are built from the same materials...Do a little research before dispensing your opinion as advice...or at least qualify your answer as to which HS Case...ok?

Well, T2S. Good for you. Mine is brand new and I would be concerned if it touched anything hard. Quite the opposite, I have zero confidence in this Fender Reissue Tweed Case except to keep dust off my guitar. I would never describe this case as strong or
sturdy or reliable.

T2S. Did not my statement suggest getting the Fender Hard Shell Case? I've owned
30 & 40 year old original black Strat & Tele cases. They hardly got nicked at all. Great cases.

Do a little research :?: :?: :?: :?:
I mentioned I just got one in. First hand ownership :!:
All you need to do is ask me politely instead of requesting more reseach.
I own the case. Do not like it. Do not trust it. Think it is cheap. Decent dust cover.
I researched it by knocking on the side panels, twice. Enough research for me.

I've purchased nine Fender guitars this year, most all with the SKB type black hard shell cases.

One Custom 40th Anniversary Reissue Telecaster guitar
came with the BRAND NEW Fender Reissue Tweed Case.
I hate it. It is too thin. Here it is on EBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/300692399329?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D300692399329%26_rdc%3D1

Buy one yourself and share your research. Thanks for letting me know
Fender does some things well. Maybe older cases were stronger.
But, my Fender Reissue Tweed is not good enough to carry my good guitars.

Chill out Topp, man you get testy!
but I'm not T2...so I'm sure he will have something to say also.
I think, since I've done very little friggin' RESEARCH on the matter, that some of the tweed cases from Fender now are not G&G cases?
See that's probably where the difference is...I carry my guitars in tweed G&G cases and gig in bars where the smoke is thick and the floors are not carpeted and I don't even worry about the cases if some brawl breaks out,in other words,I have confidence in G&G tweed cases....I have no doubt though if a gunfight starts, they aren't bullet proof...niether am I,so while I'm shooting back,I'll have to find some other cover, one rule is that there's a big difference between "cover" and "concealment"!
I don't own a case that's not G&G,they've been making cases since the '50s...now if I was jetsetting around the country,I'd get a flight case.

Used sales won't help Fender pay for this FREE forum. There are plenty of other sites for that.

Topp...I have been using Fenders G&G Tweed and Tolex cases for 35 years, I have actually OWNED over 20 of them and never had a single problem with any of them...I actually gigged with them in the 70s thru the 90s...That is a FACT, not an opinion. I suspect once again you know not what of which you speak...you have yet to show a picture of ANY guitar, amp, or case for that matter that you actually own on here...it is always an ebay add or something to that effect. Why don't you just give us all a break and stop posting your opinion as fact....you obviously don't know crap about Fender Gear. I have added you to my "Foe" list and will not reply to anything you post... [Obscenity removed]

You guys! I got a Fender case in my hands.
Seems new ~ reissue new. No marks, nothing wrong.
Probably came with the Telecaster reissue guitar.
Following is a picture of the guitar and case:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/300692399329?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D300692399329%26_rdc%3D1

Looks real nice.
But, it is weak, thin, and I do not like it.

This is just an opinion of your experience. You state your opinion as fact.
I have an opinion of my experience, first hand live.
I do know what I am talking about. I do own tons of Fender Gear.
Lot of it has been posted in pictures.

Again. I stick to my opinion.
The Tweed case I have is weak and not reliable. End of discussion.

This "tweed case" subject is closed for me. I have other amps and guitars to deal with.

No real biggie. We got different cases. Testy? Just read T2S's comments. Out of the blue.
You have a good one and I have a bad one. Just difference of opinions.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/300692399329?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D300692399329%26_rdc%3D1

Not sure why an opinion from a lifetime Fender man like me cannot be
allowed by some others to express an opinion that differs (and on a case?).

Well Toppscore.."lifetime Fender man" as you called yourself...
you don't really seem to know the difference between a real tweed G&G case, and the case on that non-Fender copy on eBay you posted which is NOT a G&G case,it very well could be a POS case for a copy of a Fender guitar...that buddy,is why you get called out on these things....
you can cry foul and state that it's the end of discussion all you want....but you don't know what you're talking about,it's as simple as that,Mr. lifetime Fender Man,that's why you get into these spats.
and why the eBay links all the time if you own these things?????
and a COPY of some guitar...not a Fender G&G case or a real Fender Tele!!!

No problem at all. That is why I posted a picture of my new Fender Reissue Tweed Case.
Do not get one. Too weak and thinly built. It is a Fender. It is Tweed.

I loved my 1960s/1970s/1980s Black Fender cases. Not sure if they are GG or Fender.
I also have three new Fender "SKB-Like" Black Hard Shell Cases that I love.

Original Poster stated:
"Fender/SKB Case on ebay used costs just as much as getting a brand new one from sweetwater with free shipping. I have looked on Craigslist and ebay and guitar center used sections and most want so much money, that they make it easier to just buy new! I am looking for the newer ones from 2008 until now with the tsa locks"

And I responded:
"Just get SKB or Fender HSCase. I got one of those tweeds sent with a guitar.
I hate it. Way too thin and fragile. They look good, but will get destroyed easily.
I have several hard shell cases. All good."

So, that is the deal. I showed a picture. I got a Tweed that is not good.
And probably the post 2008 Fenders are not made as well as the 1950s.

I think it is the way one person responded.
Call me out anytime, no problem, be nice, be polite, be opened minded. Right?

Does the following response seem friendly to you?
"Topp...You must be abusing your tweed case, the one that came with my '82 57 AVRI has weathered about a hundred gigs with no discernable damage. Quite the opposite in fact it still looks relatively new. I would never discribe Fenders tweed cases as fragile or thin. There are examples out there from the mid fifties still doing duty...and with the exception of tolex vs tweed, the Fender HS cases are built from the same materials...Do a little research before dispensing your opinion as advice...or at least qualify your answer as to which HS Case...ok?" "Topp...I have been using Fenders G&G Tweed and Tolex cases for 35 years, I have actually OWNED over 20 of them and never had a single problem with any of them...I actually gigged with them in the 70s thru the 90s...That is a FACT, not an opinion. Why don't you just give us all a break and stop posting your opinion as fact....you obviously don't know crap about Fender Gear. I have added you to my "Foe" list and will not reply to anything you post...I know an assclown when I see one and this will be my final response to your drivel."

And all I did was suggest to the OP to not get the tweeds.
The OP mentioned the new ones from Sweetwater are cheaper with free shipping.
Again, I warned him to get the hard shell cases, not the tweeds. That was all!

I am talking from experience. I am a lifetime Fender Man (as many are).
On top of it all - I never studied GG cases. To me a case is a case, unless it is a bad case or problem case.
Like the New Fender Reissue Case I just purchased.

On another subject, I have been purchasing covers for all of my amps.
I need to SLOWLY buy quite a few. I have tried six Fender Covers with Fender Logos
from four different vendors. Three vendors do not make a good cover.
One vendor has made two great covers for me. I am buying one right now
from a new supplier: Roq Solid Power Covers in England for my
1983 Fender Concert II 1x12 combo amp. It has not arrived, yet.
If they are good as expected, I will have two of five suppliers I like.
I have yet to try D2F Covers.

The point I am making is that all amp covers I tried seem to be Fender Products
or licensed Fender products. Probably, just the same as the Fender cases.
Not all are great. Some models may be better made or have better materials.

Same with Fender amps.
Same with Fender guitars.
Same with Fender accessories.

Rebelsoul, I am a big boy, a true Fender Man. I do not know nearly
but a "dripping dribble drop" of knowledge within the bathtub
of ALL Fender knowledge. Just like everyone else.

In the history of all Fender knowledge,
only ONE PERSON knows the MOST Fender KNOWLEDGE and
only ONE PERSON knows the LEAST Fender KNOWLEDGE.
EVERYBODY ELSE IS IN-BETWEEN.

So, if someone is soooooo upset that I dislike a Fender case,
there is so much going on besides my statement.

If one disagrees, just ask why or how or what do I mean?
Please don't try to belittle or condescend or put down or state that all my opinions
come off like facts. PM me or ask nicely. Just like the other argument over JBL speakers.
There are better ways to come across than to butt-heads and challenge
and declare one is absolutely this or that. Don't cha think?

Ever seen me draw first blood? Now, I am trying my best not to respond. I just click
the "trouble button" on the offender's comment, and let the moderator take over.
Kindness and openmindedness is the best way to go on a Forum of Opinions.

Hey Topp....lots of people seem to take me the wrong way,I can be gruff, typed words on a computer screen are easily mistaken concerning the tone of the poster's intent...if that makes any sense.
About amp covers, for the last couple of years I have bought D2F covers,at least 6 or 8 covers...I love them, they ship quickly, you can talk to the owner easily and they have fit every vintage amp I put them on...they do not have Fender logos on them though...try one and see if you like it,they have covers for most any Fender amp made I think.
