While packing my gear after playing at the church I tripped over my cable and my strat fell off the stand and hit the deck. I had a few choice words not suitable for the location.

There was a nasty looking mark on the bottom where it rubbed against the guitar stand and a small nail head sized ding in the lower horn. The mark rubbed out but the ding is permanent. Guess I'm lucky considering what a stupid move I made.

Don't be too hard on yourself, these things happen to everyone. This must be how Pete Townsend got started smashing guitars, he tripped over the cord at the end of the show, and was so mad that he smashed his guitar that first time.

As the years go by, you can fondly remember the ding as coming from that one terrific time that you rocked the house (or church), and then slammed your guitar PT style. Good story for the grand kids anyway.

Who cares??? Wanna win a beauty contest or a sound contest?? The latter doesn't care about the look. Every guitar has a history and I don't know many guitars with "holy marks" from a church!!!

I'm glad that nothing serious happened to your axe. As long as it plays = fine!!!!!

In former days heroes showed off their scars, today our axes show off their scars!

A guitar without scratches and dents lived a boring life in some sterile living room! 8)

To me a guitar is just a chunk of wood, until it gets tha first scratch or ding. Then it's my baby and i'm proud of each and every one. Even my battle scarred strat meant nothing until i added my own ding to the barely there finish. Now it's my pride and joy of the flock.

It's ironic but the worst thing I ever had happen to a guitar was on one that never left the house.

It was back in my wilder partying days and a few "friends" were over gettin drunk and stoned. I had a Gibson ES330 on a stand and two of the guys starting arguing. Next thing you know they're both up swinging and grabbing and fall right into my guitar.

Snapped the head right off the neck. I guess the good thing is that it stopped the fight. They both apologized and promised to pay for the repairs. Unfortunately I got burglarized a few weeks later and never saw that guitar again.

Anybody out there with a repaired ES330 that was bought in Mississippi I want it back.

I have a well used and loved old Martin D-35 with plenty of dings and scratches. I look at those marks and remember the people who put them there. One of them just died of cancer two weeks ago. That guitar is like a road map of my life. Besides, after the first ding the rest are easier to live with  .

The sanctuary was empty. Thank God (no pun intended).

What bugs me is not that it's a new guitar getting it's first ding. It's an '88 strat plus that is in very good condition and I have it listed on CL. Only a couple of minor blemishes plus one more now. Guess I'll have to lower the asking price (which is way to high anyway  ).

There is always risk involved when gigging with a nice guitar. These things will happen if you remove them from the case and play them. The only way to almost prevent this is to never touch it or open the case. If that's not an option, then your guitar will pick up a few bumps and bruises, just like you do when you go playing outside the house LOL. :) Other than that, leave great guitars at home, and gig with good guitars. A guitar is a tool, and tools get used, and used things wear. 1 ding since 1988, I'd say that guitar is lucky! I own a 1990 AM STD that has lived a very, VERY hard life. But you know what? I don't worry about it anymore either. I'd gig with it in a swimming pool, a hail storm, or the zombie apocalypse, if I had too LOL.
