Hey there,

The truth is, I miss my strat a bit, since i traded it in for my Am Spec Tele, which is awesome. But sure every guitar is special, and I miss the strat shape. But I want one with a bit more power, a bit more arse if u will! So a HSS would be fine. How long have the Am Std been available in HSS? I'm looking to buy one used, since a new one is too expensive!

Cheers :)

I'm not sure when the HSS option first became available (I'm guessing since maybe '91???), but they've been around for a while. Of course, if you get a good deal on an SSS, then I'd say go for it and stick a bucker in it.

Hey 93!
Ok, thanks for the fast reply!
You're right on the SSS, then I get to choose a humbucker that I really like, but I also like to keep my guitars as standard as possible, only changing the strap buttons to schaller. :) But if it's a really good deal, or the color is good, maybe I can think again!

HSS American Standards have been around since say late 1995-early 1996 when Fender brought out the Lone Star Strat (with 2 Texas Special single coils and a Duncan Pearly Gates Plus humbucker).

Prior to that there were several MIJ HSS Strats, the Strat Ultra (with Lace Sensors), and the Floyd Rose Classic but not a basic American Standard with a factory bridge humbucker.

@John C

You forgot the Artist Series... Jeff Beck, Matthias Jabs and Richie Sambora.

Good call - I forgot about them as I was dashing off that response.

Not to derail - but I've never seen a Jabs in the flesh and just barely remember it being shown in a magazine ad. Was it an HSS or was it just a bridge humbucker only like his modded vintage Strat from back then?

Or..There is also these.......

Below, 2 vintage fender pups, 1 Gotoh HB with Push/pull single to dual coil switch and all 3 pups on TBX tone pots. 5 way switch....

Below Carvin M22 HB with single to dual coil toggle switch, Carvin HII in neck and mid.
also 5 way switch.....

Both are being rewired and wood inserts/ fine thread SS bolts are replacing the common screw neck/body weak point..

Thx everyone for the replies! Hopefully I will find one that suits me, either by changing the pups, or finding a HSS.

Cheers!

Spending money in order to buy another HSS Strat is a waste of time. Your guitar is already routed for three humbuckers, so you can drop a loaded pickguard there.

I may have missunderstood you now, but I don't have a strat at all now. Which I am going to buy.

I ordered a new HSS (sunburst) and it came in last week. I love it. Its got nice growl if needed in the bridge pick up. Satisfies my personal taste in the blues tone I wanted. Good luck and sleep on what you want, do your homework, then go for it!
