I was wondering if there is a reason that the Hot Rails I just installed in my Strat are as noisy as a single coil? I've used a Hot Rails before and it was really quiet even with high gain, but this one's noisy as anything.

I used this diagram from Seymour Duncan's site: http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=1h_2s_1v_2t_5w_as

I compared it to the original diagram from Fender's support page: http://support.fender.com/service_diagrams/stratocaster/010-7400_02C_SISD.pdf

The only differences are in the wiring of the switch, the Fender diagram shows four lugs being jumpered, while the SD diagram does not. Since one jumper goes to one of the lugs where the Hot Rails gets wired for coil split in position 4, does that have something to do with the hum?

There's only two possibilities here:
1. The Duncan is defective.
2. Your wiring is defective.

At least, show us a CLEAR, up close photo of your wiring job and we'll try taking it from there.

I removed the red and white wires from the switch, elimination the split in position 4 and it is very quiet now. I may try rewiring it to the Duncan diagram or add a mini switch or push pull. But for now, I just want to play it.
