Toppscore...bare wood? Be careful with bare wood especially if you play any outdoor gigs in any amount of humidity...necks like that can swell up from soaking in the moisture which is not a good thing.

I agree. I just goT it in the USPS mail. It's a Warmoth.
Koa wood, I believe. Seems bare, but could have stain and protection.
Definitely can feel the grain, and it seems porous.

But, plays better than my glossy necks.

Some of the Spanish guitarbuilders used the white stuff from eggs on the guitars body. maybe you should think the same way, maybe not with eggs.. just go over it with something that protects the wood without effecting your playing (and probably something that do not smell like eggs)

(if you are going to sand the neck)

A little thing about modifications since people talk about em on this topic. I'm considering to stop soldering on the pickups during replacements, just connect them with krimps instead. Then it should be a quick job trying out different pickups. Someone tried it?

I play a variety of different Strats. Most of what I own has a Modern C neck and all have different pickups. Depending on what I play determines which one I play. As far as playability I prefer modern C shaped necks.

My luck would be Strato-scrambled eggs ala Fender

That is my thought, exactly.
I want to try it out on speakers.
Go to the radio shack and setup permanent non-solder connectors.
Try different speakers with joy instead of hassle.

Actually I was thinking about something like this for quite some time.
It would be cool to have "plug and play" connectors to the jack and the spring claw.
Just change fully loaded pickguards by plugging in the two connections and putting in the 8 or 11 pickguard screws.

Even better: having kind of a drawer-like construction. Simply pull out the "drawer" and push in another one with different pickups! All without even downtune the strings or dismount the neck!

Rockinger constructed something like that to produce their Pickup-demo-CD.

They simply pull out the fully mounted slider, drawer, whatever you wanna call it and push in another one with different PUs.
Of course it should look a little nicer than on the picture!

Just thought about what a funny idea it would have been to reconstruct a Tele whit holes for the pickups that goes trough the body, so you could mount the pickups from the backside. But no, don't wanna ruin the guitar :?

Or actually, if you slider the poles of the pickups on to some home made aluminum rings on the screws holes. Then it's a quick way to make some plug and play stuff :D

And btw; the drawer was a really cool idea

Smokin'. The technology exists!
I have two HP Hewlett Packard versions.
Imagine pushing a button on your Stratocaster,
and instantly the entire loaded pickguard
pops-out the guitar's bottom side/edge.
Just like my HP Laptop CD disc changers.
The HP changer-bay pops-out, then you pop-in a new CD, and away you go.

Imagine a Stratocaster bottom pop-out, a fully loaded SSS pickguard is ejected.
Then you can pop-in a new fully loaded SHH pickguard. Walllaaah!

New project ot work on.
For $3,399, you can buy Fender's new Poppin' Pickguard Startocaster (TM) with
four optional loaded pop-in pickguards. Your choice of twelve offered by Fender

Hope this helps. Toppscore 8)

Hey Toppscore, imagine the pickups rotating around like a CD, would maybe sound like a copter.

Advice to those who own a guitar but don't know how to play; build a CD player in to it and just act like your playing.

Or just learn how to play!
