not me, I can play any guitar. I let the sound I'm after dictate the guitar.

Although sometimes when I record, in the interest of being able to distinguish one track for another I might use a different guitar than the one I'd use live. I find when layering guitars I find strats and Les Paul's work well together.

Last-but-one band I was in, I always used my Tele USA Deluxe - it just seemed to fit - and kept my MIM Strat as a stage spare but rarely, if ever, used it.

Last band I was in, I'd splashed out on a Custom Shop Deluxe Strat so naturally that took centre stage, but it also fitted the type of music we were playing more than the Tele would have done, I think.

In my new band, I find I use the (CS) Strat for maybe 70% of the time, but for some of our songs it just has to be the Tele!

I guess it's horses for courses and whatever works for you at the time - mood depending.

Not sure if that helps at all, but that's how it is for me :-)

I guess it's a matter of playing experience.
During the beginner years, other neck shapes, bridges, whatsoever might throw you off but with increasing experience you immediately adapt to other guitars.

There might still be quite a few which "don't feel right" somehow but in general you'll get along with more guitars the better you get.

Of course there's always preferred features on a guitar. That's more a matter of like and not like but it doesn't throw you off when playing.

Had trouble switching between guitars when I first started using Gibson guitars besides my Strat.

Now it's not really an issue, I guess you just have to vary your playing style and pick attack etc depending on which guitar you use and what type of sound you're after. I love playing different types of guitars, it boosts creativity :)

Right now I'm about to explore slide guitar and open tunings for real instead of just fooling around. It's good fun to try something new although sometimes it's a bit frustrating.

I definately PREFER my Strats, but I enjoy my Tele and my Jackson almost as much. Sometimes you just need that "twang" or the growl of a humbucker :D . One of my Sons is a 'dyed in the wool' Gibson guy and I like playing his LP and SG too, they don't balance near as nicely as my Strat but they play well. I totally understand how one guitar can feel best in your hands but don't let that deprive you of the fun times that can be had on other quality guitars.

Words! My Strat is the most expensive guitar I've got, and totally the one of them thats in best shape. Quality guitar! Another guitar I bought some while ago, was the most regretfully choice of a guitar I've ever done. It was a Hagström UltraSwede. Why? The neck is just way to thin for me. And the sound; okay, but a bit china budget. (only reason I got it was because I needed the humbuckersound for a small project)

You should count the holes and compare. If it's 11 or 8 holes. Shape is mostly the same on the Americans and maybe the Mexicans except some 90's issues I believe. Pleas correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

I have been trying a varity of custom strats & teles.
All modern and custom with custom electronics, switching, push/pull, veritone switching,
in-phase & out-of-phase up/down switches, Bigsby & Fender vibrato systems, etc.
Sold my 1970s/1980s Strats & Teles to have more fun and more tones
with the custom guitars and not worrying about original (vs) modifications.

As far as the necks go, I enjoy being flexible so I can play all guitars
with the mental adjustments supplied.

Imagine having a gig tonight and all of your axes were stolen.
You'd still play, but would have to adjust. So, variations are good to learn.
Take care. Toppscore 8)

My current guitar collection encompasses a huge range of necks and, truth be told, I've been playing on lots of different guitars my whole life, so which guitar I pick up and play doesn't seem to affect me in the least.

Not that I can't tell the difference between the necks on different guitars, there's a lot of difference switching from one brand of guitar to another and not so much the shape of the neck for me as the width of the neck.

I suppose if you've grown up playing one guitar, the change might be a lot more noticeable. I've always been a Fender guys first and foremost, but I love variety.

I have always found it takes a bit of adjustment, but only going between a Gibson and a Fender...and that more for the difference in string spacing than anything. I played a 62 strat for years and then sold it...and hadn't found a neck as comfortable as that until I picked up a 60s Classic Series Strat a while back...it was the exact same shape and I felt at home right away...it was kind of weird to say the least, and quite unexpected.

I think if you play a lot of different guitars with different shape necks then you probably don't have as much difficulty with it, but I think CRGM is right, if you grow up on one neck, it can make a difference...but maybe that is just in my head!

FWIW

I am going to experiment with my guitar neck's back-side.
I just received my first Stratocaster with no gloss finish ~ just bare wood.
And it feels smooth.

I may sand a couple of Stratocasters with glossy necks to see how they feel.

Thank gosh they are modern custom Strats & Teles,
or I'd have to think about originals being modified.
