I wanna scallope my fretboard. my fretboard is rosewood, but there's only 2 mm between surface of fretboard and side markers. Image

what do you think? move the side markers? or the depth better 2 mm?

note: i have a luthier to do this

Perhaps you should consider a solid maple neck. Someone here will likely know the construct of the Malmsteen neck. You should be guided by that. It is likely that a wood board is not designed for that kind of modification.

Malmsteen also has some scalloped rosewood. but i never see the bass side so i can't see where is the side markers planted.

If your really serious about a scalloped neck, I think you should just buy one from warmoth, that way you'll still have your original neck if you want to go back.
