http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FENDER-STRAT-GUITAR-SCALLOPED-Yngwie-Malmsteen-SWEDISH-METAL-NEO-CUSTOM-SHOP-/251045156672?pt=Guitar&hash=item3a73751740

The listing says there is no serial number on the neck, nor any paperwork that comes with the guitar.

Looks awesome. Described as a "prototype"... Keen on it but not sure of its authenticity..

Can anyone perhaps shed some light on this unique strat regarding authenticity?

Cheers

Can I interest you in a nice bridge in Brooklyn? How about some bottom land in Mississippi?

That is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. At least the seller is honest in saying they have no idea what it is.

Wasn't that the guitar that was in one of the Teletubbies shows? It would be worth more if they had autographed it...

I like it
If I could try it, I'd likely buy it.

I'm a bit bored of Strats in truth. I dunno whether that thing is genuine or not. The headstock looks like it may be early 90's Mexican or a MightyMite (do they do heel adjustment?).
The body is probably Mexican, I can't see anything too untoward about it.

Worth a shot for something novel if you ask me.

Does it have one of those big clunky nuts for truss rod adjustment at the heel of the neck? That big gap at the top of the pickguard sure seems to indicate one.

So I guess that means it's not a Fender neck.

It's pretty unique, that's for sure.

I zoomed the whole page (CTRL and +) on one of the pictures with about as close up of that neck pickup as the pictures had.

It looks to be a screwhead adjustment to me. Just like my 57Hotrod.

Could it be a Fender neck based on a 60's reissue?

With such a deep scallop I would be concerned about neck stability.

I wouldn't take a risk on that guitar without being able to check it out. I've only bought a guitar sight unseen once and it was a cheap used Kramer for < $100 and it turned out to be an OK guitar. I never would buy a 'real' guitar without being able to check it out.

Note the seller's legal "parachute"......

"LIKELY A PROTOTYPE MADE BY THE FENDER CUSTOM SHOP (we were told this by a guitar shop but we have no Fender paperwork to prove this)."

Translation: It's as phony as a seven-dollar bill.

Caveat Emptor!

Nah the strength is all in the maple and the trussrod. Rosewood is too brittle to offer much strength across its length.

Are you saying there's no variability in the flexing of a neck with a scalloped versus and non-scalloped fingerboard?

Yea, it looks like a heavily modded Mexican. IMO it doesn't look like a piece of junk, but it's not what they suggest, i.e. Custom Shop prototype. It's somebodies project. Not worth the asking price.

So minute as not to matter between a scalloped and flat rosewood board.
It's not there to add strength.
