Is it worth the money? Should I trade my Jazzmaster in for it?

It's a very old model actually shortly after it debuted in 1958. I might not get much for it but it still play's well.

Are you saying that your JM is a '58 or '59? If it is, odds are it's worth more than the VG.

If you do get one (I would stick with the JM) DONT GET IT AT GUITAR CENTER!!! I played one their and everything was on and the tuning and mode functions did not work. Someone probably broke it. But anywhere else is great!

I had one and didn't like it, to me it sounded fake, hard to describe, poor purchase on my part. In hindsight I should have waited for Fender/Roland to put those electronics into a foot pedal. I really hated a guitar with batteries. I have not had the greatest luck with Strats. I didn't really like my HWY 1 Strat either, maybe I'm just not a Strat guy?? For 1700 bucks I expected better.

They probably didn't put the batteries in it.

Maybe it's because you didn't start with a clean pallet. I've found that when I plug in a new guitfiddle if I don't set my amp settings straight up I tend to try and make the new guitar sound like one of my other guitars and become unsatisfied. Starting new give the guitar a chance to show you what it has and the VG is the best bang for the buck guitar in the Fender Stable.

I owned one for a few weeks, then sold it. The models sound good, but when you are playing at gig volume and you switch from the model to the real thing, it is a BIG difference. YMMV ?

I spent a couple hours with a VG strat this weekend and once I figured out the controls I had fun with it. Good sounding american hunk of wood. I don't do much in altered tunings so I passed but it was a Very Good (vg get it) guitar.

Anyone know if the 3 single coil pickups that come stock in the VG guitar can be taken out and replaced just like any other Fender, without affecting the VG's modeling ability? :?:

Also, can the Roland GK guitar produce the same sounds as the VG strat, particularly, the humbucker modeling, alternate tunings, and acoustic modeling? :?: If not the Roland, is any other modeling guitar out on the market capable of these modeling features, and do it as well or better than the VG?

Thanks,

F's C

why would you want to replace the pickups!?

line 6 do some sort of "modelling" USB based guitar, comes with a modelling programme...its very PC dependant. It doesn't actually have pickups though...
