I'd say yes, they are out of style.

That being said, my #1 is a 1989 Eric Clapton Strat w/ stock Lace Golds. I think they have a beautiful singing sound but they are just not (IMO) very authentic, especially when adding grit. Don't get me wrong, I love my guitar; but if I wanted super authentic, balls-out 1954 tone, I would look elsewhere. If you're trying for those huge Journeyman/24 Nights RAH leads, you've arrived at the right pickups. Here are some of my favorite YT clips of EC Strats that IMO exemplify what Lace Sensors really sound like. The solos are hand-picked by me as some of my favorites:

Yes. Thanks for sharing those clips.
Love to hear the Lace Sensors at work in the hands of masters.

Thank Gosh for opinions. "out of style"???
By what parameters?

Are 1969 Reissue pickups out of style?
Is the Fender Plus Ultra out of style?
What is "In-Style"

Toppscore 8)

You'll need also the right equipment to get that late 1980s/early 1990s sound: a Soldano SLO-100 tube/valve head, a Marshall 4x12 cab fitted with 12" EVM12L speakers and a Cornish rig with a Vox wah-wah pedal.

Prior to the Journeyman era Eric used the SLO-100 with the Bradshaw rig which also included Boss tri-stereo chorus and flanger pedals among others.

Personally I opt for a Fender EC Twinolux, a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix wah-wah pedal and a Wampler SLOstortion for getting those searing humbucker tones.
