What do you recommend for cleaning a nitro finish on my HR57.

Thanks!

BTW - it's an awesome guitar.

Wipe it down after each playing with a good quality lint free cloth. If you must use some sort of spray on I have used Fender Guitar Polish on my '82 '57 Vintage Reissue since new and never had any issues with build up or any adverse affects on it.

I use a guitar polish and a stockinette cloth (don't know if it's called that Stateside)
but it's good for wiping under the strings without getting lint stuck on them , unlike the yellow dusters which are lethal for that
When I change strings (like I did yesterday) , I also polish up the frets and tuners with duraglit (laquered maple board) and then buff them with toilet paper to get rid of the black residue which leaves them very silky feeling and great for bends

I use Dunlop 65 polish after I play a gig to make some of the smoke smell go away,it helps, but as for the nitro finish,it's going to be easily scratched up no matter what you clean it with.....that's the whole attraction of the type of finish,...the natural wear it shows.

I use gibson polish only. its made for nitro finish you should also.
if not gibsons find one for nitro finishes. most others like the dunlop and others
contain silicone and other thing that will clog the pours of the nitro finish. also never use lemon plege or other houshold sprays. if you dont have any of the right polish just use some warm water.

also Virtuoso is nitro safe.

The Gibson Pump polish in the orange bottle? Label says that it's safe for all finishes. I didn't know if that was true or just aggressive marketing. It's safe for nitro?

for years i have used good ole painters naphtha and Johnsons paste wax. my father has used it for about 50+ years. just squirt some naphtha on a rag and wipe off the grime and then a lite coat of paste wax on the body to give some shine. there are no abrasives involved so it wont wear the finish. and it will not damage nitro or poly. also a can of each will last you a lifetime

those specialty polishes are a gimmick

Johnsons paste wax is good, but I have found Gerlitz guitar wax to be best product I've come across. Very easy to use and a small can will last forever.

I wouldn't put naptha on any of my guitars mainly because it was never intended for this kind of use. Best bet is some sort of a variation of a furniture polish. in other words a wood finish cleaner/polish - not lighter fluid.

it has been used to clean and prepare painted surfaces for many years....... the reason it is used is because it removes oil, grease and any buildup without damaging the existing paint. the reason it works so great for guitars is because you get a more even coat of wax applied afterwords. since it removes oil there is noticeably less dust cling and streaking.

using furniture polish leaves oils and worst of all is the silicone based oils. and oils mean the wax does not contact the paint and is wiped off easily, thus leaving streaks. you will really notice the difference with black guitars.
