Hello, guitar Gurus. I haven't posted in a while.... been kinda busy. I just made a huge mistake, though I didn't realize it until I had sold the amp. But I just sold my 1975 Twin Reverb a few days ago and I'm sick with remorse. I sold it because the thing is so heavy and I was gonna get something not so heavy. But man I really wish I would NOT have done that. I'm wondering if the new Twin Reverb Reissues sound like the old ones. Does anyone here have a Reissue Twin Reverb and does anyone know if they sound close to the old Twins. Thanks for any input.

I just bought a 65 reissue, yesterday in fact. Can't say if it sounds like the old ones, but I really like it. Wonderful clarity and tone. Don't know if this helps you or not, but it's a great amp in its own right.

Hello galadrium, the 65 reissue is exactly what I was considering to replace the twin because the 65 reissue is lightweight compared to the twin and it does have that tone I like. What's the headroom like on the 65 reissue?

Just to be clear, I bought a 65 Twin Reverb reissue yesterday. I haven't put through its paces completely yet but it's the cleanest amp I've ever owned or played through. It hurts my ears turned up past 4, so that's pretty much the loudest I've had it. Crystal clear though. It's not quite as heavy as I thought it would be, 64lbs, not something you'd want to carry a long distance, but not too bad from the car to my living room.

Oh ok, I misunderstood. I thought you bought the 65 deluxe reverb reissue. Did yours come with casters? 65lbs? That's not bad. I never weighed my old one but it felt like it weighed at least a hundred lbs. :)

No casters on mine, so if I end up lugging it around a lot I might add some. I did play a 65 reissue Deluxe Reverb last week. Again, I have only the twin to compare it to but it was also a very nice amp, though not quite as punchy with the single speaker. I'm almost thinking I went overboard on getting the twin since its way more than I'll probably ever use it for volume wise. To sum it up, I think both are excellent amps with great tone, it just really depends on what you need it for.

I own them both -- a '78 Twin Reverb (with the ultra-linear chassis) and a '91 Twin Reverb re-issue.

The re-issue is "in the ballpark" but it benefits from better speakers, better tubes, and a hotter idle bias to put it in the same league as a silverface or original blackface. That said, it's loud as hell and plenty clean for surf, jazz, or traditional country. If you need/want some "grit", plan on buying some quality stompboxes.
