Pre-2001 Jeff Beck Strats or any that are advertised with a U shaped neck. I think some Classic Players come with them as well. Maybe some one else will help mention other models, but for sure the older Beck Strats.

Is a U shape the baseball bat and the C neck the thin neck? Is the V neck considered closer to a U or a C?

The V feels a lot closer to the C shape. The U is in a class by itself!

i distinctly remember reading somewhere my 'MIM 72 custom tele had a baseball bat neck. whether this was just somebody describing it, or something more 'official' i cant remember, im leaning towards the idea i read it in the fender catalogue, this was about 2003. it is certainly pretty fat, but it doesnt give the neck shape in the current catalogue.

Not excactly - when people say a "baseball bat" for a neck they are usually referring to the depth of the neck more than the shape of the neck.

It just happens that a lot of historic early Fenders with the really fat necks had the "U" shape that they were using in the early 1950s - pretty much the earliest Broadcaster/"Nocaster"/Telecasters plus the earliest Strats from say 1954/55. The "U" was starting to get to more of a "C" in 55 or so, then for the Strats got to be more of a "V". To some people even the large "soft V" necks like the CS "10-56" necks are pretty fat and border on being "baseball bat" but you do more often see that term in reference to "U" and "C" necks because they are fuller in your hand than the "V" necks.

The Clapton has a modified soft V-shaped neck.

The Robert Cray Strat has a big C neck. It is a hard tail though.

It's closer to a C.

I agree the all Jeff Beck guitars are going to have really big necks. Also the SRV Strat has a big neck as well.

My '62 Vintage Hot Rod has a very big neck, probably the biggest of the recent production Strats I've played.

Check out the Japanese '62RIs. I have a MIJ '62 neck on an '89 American Standard, and it has a much chunkier feel than the AVRIs I've picked up.

Weird - my MIJ '62RI has what I'd call a fairly thin neck, actually feels a smidge smaller in the hand than my Plus, which is not exactly that chunky. Certainly a million miles away from one of those modern speed necks though - I can't even play those for more than five minutes before my hand cries out for mercy.

Then again, I am one of the few people who picked up an early Beck Strat and thought, "Hmm, nice neck, could do with a bit more meat on it though..."
