I agree with you, I like your guitar more as a piece of art. If an artist made guitar that looked exactly like yours (but it wasn't actually a Fender Stratocaster and would not play)...I would buy it for $150-$175 and hang it on my wall...maybe even with recessed lighting with the option of shining different colors! :) I think that would be really cool.

But as for me, unless this guitar sounded incredible and didn't need upgrades, I wouldn't pay more than $275 for it. That's just me. No offense.

To each his own. But I agree with others who said that IF a guitar has been used and abused (enjoyed for years) it would be a badge of honor. But I think someone went a little too far. Either way, if I bought this guitar for a good price and upgraded the pickups/neck over a few years it COULD become a piece of me and I'd rock the hell out of it and abuse it some more.

I just hope you didn't pay more than $275 USD for this guitar...because there are lots of fine MIM Fenders out there and currently, Fender IS in it's golden age...their guitars and amps are awesome (but there will always be a few bad ones, but those are rare).

Rock on! :D

Thank you sir!

Well, the reason why I want upgrades is just because I want a really characteristic sound which I'm not quite getting yet. It sounds like a "premium" MIM strat. Like it has an organic, raw touch to it, gritty even at times. But I want that in a more bluesy tone so hence the pickup change and the neck and the tuners will be a cosmetic change but also to improve playability. The reason why i like the guitar so much is because the wood is a pretty odd alder and basswood. It is a combo that I just have never seen anywhere else and that makes it very special to me not just because it is mine and I've owned for a couple of years.

I agree with you though, and this baby is my badge of honor and hopefully will grow to become something else.

It looks pretty good to me, I wouldn't relic every guitar I own but It's an enjoyable form of artistic expression. I reliced my resonator with a sense of humor. It's quite obviously not natural aging

Yeah I get you! Tis my baby and although i have owned it for 10 years, i have never played it as much as i have in the past few months. I don't know what kind of wood it has on the body as it is made of like 3 parts but damn they resonate. And that was my thing for the relic, the pure organic sound of the thing.

Btw do you advise me any pickups in particular? I tried the Fat 50's the other day and didn't like them, tooo twaangy. I like the Custom Texas Specials but i've heard people say the CS 69's are better in every way. I honestly don't know because here where I live there are no guitar with such pickups so I have to buy on faith. From what I heard so far the Klein Jazzy Cats are my favorites but bloody expensive as well and for me right now, as a guitarist, i think it's too much. I don't have the skills or the amp for such pickups. (I own a SuperChamp XD)

thanks for your comment

I have a set of Custom Shop '69 pups. They do have a nice vintage "quack" of Fender Strat tone, but I do not like them. With their low resistance value, the output is rather hard to get them to distort or give any dirt on my amps (BillM modded Blues Jr. Tweed and a Peavey Deltablues 1x15) without using a high gain/high distortion pedal. I've had Texas Specials and Tex-Mex. TS are my favorite (only when the bridge is tied to a tone control!) The Tex-Mex have a more vintage sound, but I do like both of them.. .At the moment, noise cancellation is my biggest issue to which the CS 69's do not have a RW/RP middle pickup, so there is no hum canceling on it. Dimarzio Area Set sounds like a much better pickup option to me now.

Thanks, Mark!

That resonator looks the business! Really bloody awesome. I haven't quite gotten in to resonators but when I do, I sure want one like that. It reminds me of the REALLY expensive Fender Custom Shops, the artistic ones that even come with a matching case and amp.

I am thinking of the Texas Specials too. And for this guitar I am also thinking price wise. But for a next project I am definately using Jazzycats or Dallas Blues, both from Klein. They are amazing.
