Hello,

I am new to this but after reading a lot on this forum i decided to join so i can actively participate and increase my guitar knowledge hehe.

I would like to share with you guys my 1st, yes FIRST fender (made in mexico). It is a 2002/03 model and I believe it was a Deluxe Model due to the Maple top. I say "was" because this guitar is heavily reliced and it's about this that I would like your opinions.
You know, was it overdone, do you like it, or not... All that stuff.

Thanks and I will post pictures soon.

P.S - The guitar is stock everything besides the paint. I only had a aluminum shielding done to it. Next thing to change are pickups, nut, and I would like gold hardware (i just think it fits really nicely).

Yeah I get you! Tis my baby and although i have owned it for 10 years, i have never played it as much as i have in the past few months. I don't know what kind of wood it has on the body as it is made of like 3 parts but damn they resonate. And that was my thing for the relic, the pure organic sound of the thing.

Btw do you advise me any pickups in particular? I tried the Fat 50's the other day and didn't like them, tooo twaangy. I like the Custom Texas Specials but i've heard people say the CS 69's are better in every way. I honestly don't know because here where I live there are no guitar with such pickups so I have to buy on faith. From what I heard so far the Klein Jazzy Cats are my favorites but bloody expensive as well and for me right now, as a guitarist, i think it's too much. I don't have the skills or the amp for such pickups. (I own a SuperChamp XD)

thanks for your comment

Looks like Jimi Hendricks borrowed Pete Townsends guitar for the evening, who then sold it to Stevie Ray Vaughn....
A bit too much abuse for me. But , hey, it looked good once. :)

Does it play good.... YES! Especially cos mine had Shellac coating so can you imagine the thickness? Definitely no nitrocellulose haha

Yeah it's rough, I agree with you guys... But it turned to be exactly what I wanted and even more on the sound part (sounds like an acoustic on the grounds of a Baby Taylor now imagine if i had decent pickups!). This guitar being a MIM the neck is to be changed and so is the electronics and hardware. I guess I will update this post as I keep on going through the changes. But next thing is the nut, i wanna make this neck playable and the plastic nut is killing me.

thanks again for the comments!

So I was thinking about changing the neck... I was wanting a 70's headstock with an Ebony fretboard.

Does anyone know if such thing exists? I really can't find anything on dealers and on ebay.

I've never understood why a reliced guitar costs extra but reliced cars cost less. :? I can understand a beloved guitar you've had for years and the wear is a badge of honor. but, to do this intentionally to any guitar is shameful. Like claiming you're something that you are not. Just IMHO. BTW I will relic your car for free.

I agree with you... but I also have the other idea of "artsy relic". You can most of the time tell when the guitar is worn naturally vs artificially. My guitar being 10yrs old didn't have HALF of the scratches and such so I decided to use what it had and triple it. Like I owned a 70's guitar. Either way i'm only going to keep the body as the rest is going to be replaced over time due to my lack of money LOL.

Futurely I will have another project for a guitar that is naturaly worn. My friend is going to sell me his 15 yr old USA Strat. So that will be interesting.
