If I got a strat body with a regular humbucker route in the bridge would I need to route it more to be able to mount an angled full size bucker ala Billie Joe's Blue. Warmoth makes a pickguard for an angled hb

Why would you angle an HB, this will result in offline pole pieces from the strings, thereby affecting the electromagnetic field balance.

I have seen it done before and have never been convinced there is a viable improvement in output and thereby sound, But...

OK ...Good enough but be aware it will probably decrease your Pups output thus tone will be affected.
I understand looks is important but angling an HB in a Strat like the single coil in thinking that it will respond like a single coil in decreasing treble from the B and E strings doesn't apply with the HB since the HB has two sets of poles parallel to each other and if one set is angled somewhat below the strings then the other poles will be offset and your electromagnetic fields will not function optimally....

But Have Fun...

The very reason (other than looking good...) to have a slanted HB is when strings spacing does not match (is smaller) than that of the HB poles. e.g. the EVH early strat and its -slightly- angled PAF. It should not be as much angled as a regular strat bridge single coil though.

Billie Joe's Blue has an angled JB and Tom Delonge's strat in the Dammit video has an angled Invader. That's all the guitar will be used for as well. I will put a JB in mine.
Plus if it doesn't sound as good I can always get the regular hss pickguard.

EVH's were angled because that is what the strat layout was for the bridge pup, not because he chose to reangle the pup.
Van Halen was very pragmatic in his approach of modding his strats to what he needed.
minimal reworking to get the job done. Hence the Frankenstrat moniker.
Look at his early strats, they are guitars reworked to the musicians idea of what he needed, these were everyday work tools not Custom Shop pieces of art..
There is too much urban legend on these instances of musicians adapting their guitars to their own requirements.
More often than not it is about a very limited set of constraints....NO Money or little of it, constant gigging thus a workhorse axe that is out of action is out of the question.
So a guitar undergoes triage and that is it.
Dave Gilmours, Clapton's, all these guys did what they needed early on to get their sound with very limited resources.

Where did you get that ? I am not saying that you're wrong but it is more or less established that EVH angled the PAF on its original frankenstrat because of different string spacing (trem vs pu poles) - which also is a very pragmatic approach.

So now Fender has the Pawn Shop Jaguarillo with, you guessed it, an angled humbucker at the bridge. A buddy of mine had a bridge humbucker put in at the shop and they purposefully routed out and installed it at an angle to his surprise. When I mentioned the pawn shop one, we were talking how it was the first time we'd seen something else like that. He wonders if this causes some of the feedback that guitar produces?

Does anyone want to weigh in on the broader pros & cons of the angled HB?
