I just picked up a 1982, 57 reissue fullerton stratocaster for 1600 shipped on craigslist. its all original minus the 5 way switch and the routes being lined with copper. Other than that its in awesome condition, like bit of checking on the body, and a few frets have worn spots. Do you think I did good for 1600 dollars? let me know ill post pictures if you guys would like to see it.

thanks

Probably did good, judging from some of the prices I've seen those going for....those early reissues are becoming collector's items...we love to see pics. :D
Here's a good site to do some reading about them.

I recently bought a vintage.
I paid £341.GB aprox $553.US for my reissue 57 Fender Strat. The beautiful fiesta red. Original vintage box too. 2009/10 MIM. In perfect condition too.
I am pretty sure I got a good deal. Even If I had paid twice that amount I would treasure 'her'.
But just out of interest want to know what it would be worth...Anyone out there have any idea?
Cheers...Matt

Matt Mexico has never made a 50's vintage reissue.
Show us some pictures mate. It sounds like a Standard, based on the price.

I got one just like this. It is a MIM Classic Series 50s Strat. I got the same color Surf Green. They come with a gig bag but, I just got a hard padded wood Roadrunner case for mine. I posted a picture of it and got some cool responses. The pickups sound very cool but they are noisey, just like some of the 50s ones were.

Not just this thread but many on these Forums.
I'm seeing a lot of people buying guitars based mostly on Perceived Value instead of just the instrument equation. The concern is that I feel a lot of people are just getting fleeced for guitars that are not that special or that unique...

This may sound like a rant but just about everyday there is at least a handful of starter threads on this Forum which begins with ...
" Just bought this guitar, What do you all think it is worth ?? "
" Will I make a profit on my investment ?? "

I urge anyone to diligently research the guitar before plunking down any money.
Finding out what a store will pay you for that guitar and what the market is currently selling it at will give you a range as to what to expect and negotiate as a bid for that instrument.
A typical used MIM will sell in the $350 to $500 range, but that is a store's ask price range which demands a 35 to 40% profit from the acquisition price, or in other words that Crimson Red Deluxe MIM with SCN, Gold Hardware, maple neck would only get me about $400 on the open market, -50% if I sold it to a shop...

So the point is more often than not people are overpaying for a guitar due to sell spin and Hype.
Just something to think about.... :?

Yes I owned a 1982, 52 tele but traded it with some cash for the sweetest (in my opinion) sounding 1982 gibson es 335 natural (59 reissue or whatever) I have ever picked up. Anyway I missed my fullerton made tele, and needed that gap in my heart filled, and what better than a stratocaster! I figured it was a good price, but that tele I had played like buttered bread, so I knew the strat, had to be the same.

Heres a few pictures of it and some of my other gear.

I agree,
this is also driving up the general asking prices on craigs list. some of the prices people are asking for used guitars is very unrealistic. and the word "Vintage" is used to loosely!
its comical when some kid lists his 90's strat as "Vintage"
