i have been planning on getting a new guitar( preferably a new american standard strat) sence i have been playing for 2 years now and my present guitar is starting to die. i really want a strat because im so used to the shape and the controls. when looking for a strat i love the american standard strat that has 3 single coils( used for decades) or the humbucker in the bridge. i love both and have played both. i love rock and roll, some metal and punk/grunge stuff. can u help!

At one time I would have said the fat strat is the clear choice for you but I swithced to the american sss a few years ago and have never looked back. but with that said I have also found what I consider my personal sound/tone and the american fits it . Just kind of have to play them both and see waht direction you want. good luck

having a humbucker makes the stratocaster an even more versatile guitar. Go with that one

thanks b'ys. it helped a bit. im a huge han of hendrix, clapton, and stevie ray vaughun. but im also a fan of GNR, radiohead, ACDC, black sabbath, Pantera, bon jovi, nirvana and billy talent.(ian D'sa from billy talent uses an american fat strat) My neighbour had a band at one time and his guitarest used a strat with 3 single coils and he wants me to stick with that too. He said if it worked to hendrix, clapton, etc then it will work for u!

I don't know, humbucking... . I wouldn't even know how to use it :) guess that for a matter of taste I'd take the Standard

They do but my set up has boost and I love to play with the controlled distortion feedback when I use it

like come on its a strat, when any one in the guitar world says or thinks strat, they automatically think of fender. Its the most popular guitar EVER!! and u could always have a coil tap for the humbucker!

I just bought my first strat coming from Les Pauls and for my equipment I found I preferred the HSS strat sound. I ended up bringing home an HSS Deluxe Olympic White strat with tortoise shell pick gaurd.

I put my hands on nearly every American made Strat they had and there was just something about that certain Deluxe Strat that felt right.

That said, I also have 2 MIM strats (1 HSS and 1 standard) and I love them all. The 2 MIM's I bought to customize and experiment with. The Deluxe is perfect the way it is and will stay el-natural.

With what Fender is doing, I don't think you can go wrong with whichever model or series you decide. Fender has a great product for every price range.

Good luck.
