Unless you have experience with a router I would pass and just buy a strat with a Floyd rose on it. The Floyds require a bigger cavity and the nut

Like the very confident gentleman above me said, I'd probably pass unless you've got the skills. But if you are a glutton for punishment, then take a look at this. Another option that you may want to look into is one of the Super-Vee tremolos.

Routing, installing cost me a total of 80 bucks in a guitar repair shop on an Ibanez RG (guitar model doesn't matter, wood is wood is wood! ;)

Additionally: 270 bucks for a brand new Ibanez Edge LoPro trem!

Since I had the nut installed already (just exchanged a Floyd rose of lesser quality), there was no extra costs. On a Strat you'd have to get the locking nut installed which I don't know how much that would be. Probably something around another 60 to 70 bucks for nut and work.

That's a total of 410 Euros(!!) which would be sth around 500 to 550 US Dollars!

You can get a used US Strat on the *bay for that! Or maybe add 200 Dollars to get a used one. You'd have an original instead of a "pimped" one which would certainly DECREASE a lot in value due to all the changes!

It was worth the work on my Ibanez because it's almost as good as my Ibanez Jem now, but it was way less work and money. Additionally I could sell the old Edge III which was replaced, giving me back 70 bucks. And I had no costs for the locking nut!

I need to take a pic of my very first guitar. I tried that routing thing about 5 years ago, and it looks that $#@!. It is quite humorous and depressing at the same time. If you do route it yourself, at least get a template. Don't do a free hand job like I did!

I'll second the recommendation on the Super Vee. No permanent modifications required, a lot cleaner install, and probably cheaper overall.
