I have a 1964 Strat in Lake Placid Blue, have been told it's the original paint, and again it was refinished,, heard some of the 63 and 64's were rushed thru production due to the demand, so some guitars did not get the primer , fullerblast and clear coat so the metallic would not adhere when painted, any truth to this, makes a big difference in price when insuring
thanks

Many custom-color instruments of this era had the Duco nitro color sprayed over a body that was previously finished in 3TSB. If vestiges of this earlier finish are visible in the neck pocket, pickup routs, and control cavity, it's likely that the LPB paint is original and authentic. If the guitar were an actual factory re-fin done at the behest of a customer, the paint shop would often mark the body on the lower bout with the new color's name or initials using a scribe or awl. However, AFAIK the bodies were always primed and sealed with Fullerplast to fill the grain and minimize the prep work necessary for paint. Some regular production instruments were rushed through the process and never received a clear nitro top coat.
