Does anyone have any factory contact info for shipping an American strat to them to be set up properly? Or is there someone really good here on the forums who can do it? I want intonation, string height, pick up height, truss rod adjustment....basically everything set up carefully and precisely by someone who will take their time and do a super job. 2003 model. Thanks in advance.

It's fairly simple to do yourself. If you don't want to find a competent local guitar tech cost you 50.00 bucks.

Welcome.

I can't help you with a "factory contact". I'm sure though, there are many here who are capable of accomplishing what you require (myself included). Having said this, it would be helpful if you stated in generalities where you live. This would zero in on those in your area who are competent and willing to perform the task where the two of you could meet, etc.

Thanks for the welcome and replies guy's. I could probably do it myself, I browsed Fender's website and it had pretty detailed info. I still would rather someone well experienced set it up in case I miss something. I live NW of Charlotte about 60-70 miles. I knew a good set up man but unfortunately he passed away a few years ago. I've been away from playing for quite some time and getting "re-aquainted" with it ( such as it is lol) again. Martian, if nothing works out locally I would indeed be interested in getting you to maybe do this. I don't mind shipping too badly....just afraid of the always present danger of damage from shipping. OK, back to mowing grass and yard work for now. Thanks again guy's.

Paul,

You're welcome. If you're interested, PM me. FWIW, when not on Mars, I'm in Central NJ.

If you can't do it yourself, almost any half-decent music shop can perform a basic setup :)

Welcome to the forum Paul. Setting up a guitar isn't that hard and eventually, you'll need to learn how to do it anyway.

Hey paul!

If you want, I can take you through the process of doing a complete setup right here!

It's real easy once you learn how to do it.

Actually, there's some stuff missing in that guide that's critical to setting up a strat!

So...though the guide is very helpful, it's not complete!

It's worked for me and many others just fine.

If you feel it is incomplete, please enlighten us because making such a claim without backup is not very helpful to those seeking such information.

Sure, but not fully. I'm wrung out, long night o' playin', readin'.

...no information about checking and adjusting the nut and how that relates to intonation.

...no information about adjusting the parallel/lateral angles (not the tilt) of the neck and how that relates to intonation.

...no information about checking intonation at the first and last fret (which relates to the above.)

...no information about how to check a bad fret or frets.

...no information about what types of issues will occur when the nut or neck angle is off. ..."I adjusted the truss rod perfectly, but it's fretting out on upper frets, lower frets, etc."

A video of the whole process would be more helpful than text that's confusing to the newbie.

I find Nut Sauce works better than chapstick or vasoline.

It looks to me like stuff's been added since the last time I read it, but it's still not complete!

First of all, it is a guide, meant to provide the average player information on how to do a basic setup . The things you are talking about are items that a QUALIFIED guitar tech or luthier would check IF the basic set up procedures don't result in a playable guitar. I have used the Fender set up guides on all of my guitars (Fender and non-Fender alike) without any problems or without resorting to the items that you claim are missing from the "guide". I find them quite clear and easy to follow. All my guitars are fully intonated with no fret buzzes or any other problems.

You missed the boat on this one and don't seem interested in helping Paul learn how to do a complete setup. You seem more interested in bagging on me from thread to thread.

You are interfering with the growth of other people who will benefit from the information they are asking for and I am willing and able to impart upon them!

If you visit sites like TDPRI, you'll find lots of beginners doing complete setups, and then some, with the guidance of people like me who are willing to pay it forward!

Check your ego homie -- lighten up!

Agreed. However, the key word here is "basic". Even totally-decent music shops are hit and miss when it comes to outright superior setups.
