I am looking to buy a used start that is described as Stratocaster Deluxe Series Special Edition.
Serial number starts with MZ5......
Has the push button option of the Deluxe Player Start, gold hardware, noiseless pups.
I can find lots of detail on the Deluxe but I have looked high an low for details on a "Special Edition" model and can find nothing. THe only visible difference I can see between the catalogue and the one for sale is the saddle adjustment screws are black and not gold.

The headstock has Deluxe Edition on the front and an oval decal on the back "Special Edition"

Any information would be appreciated.

Alot of times these are built special for GC. see if it has the Clapton mid boost system in it.
I just got a players strat special addition with Single coil noiseless in middle and neck position and a atomic humbucker in the bridge. 3 tone sunburst with maple neck. Has the Clapton mid boost TBX system in it. Very nice guitar.
Good Luck

Hey, Loki- Just got an '11 Deluxe Player and, for what it's worth, the saddle adjustment screws are black. Awesome guitar, BTW.

Location: Minneapolis, MN.
you have the 2005, I also have a 2007, and all screws on the saddles are black.
mine does not have the special on the back, just a normal Deluxe Player version.
picked it up for $250, and it plays great.. pic is in my sig.

Thanks for the replies.

As it turns out - no joy for me.

I went to check out the guitar and was not quite as advertised.
Pickguard was scratched to hell and it was not a Powerhouse Strat but a Deluxe Players - which would have been fine but it was wired so that Tone 1 was a blending pot for Pups 1&2 - not really waht I was after.

Oh well - back to Kijiji :D

In my book, having the Strat wired that way would have been a plus but a soldering iron and few minutes time could reverse that if that is all thats holding you back.

I agree with Sexy (I can't believe I just said that in print). Reverting back to traditional wiring or whatever your chose is VERY easy as is replacing the pickguard. You can find some very nice pickguards at less than half the price of an "official" Fender or other high end part. I have a couple of aftermarket pickguards that I use for testing wiring mods; it's so much easier to just swap out a loaded pickguard rather than just having one and keep rewiring it. The only penalty is the cost of the parts, especially the pickups. Heck, if you lived in the DC area, I'd do it for you for free -I just really enjoy working on guitars and seeing other people's instruments.

Thanks for the offer but a bit of trek from AB Canada!

I agree with the suggestions on changing the wiring and the pick guard but those were not the only issues for me. THe strat just didnot "fit" me quite right.

Didn't get that lovin' feeling if you know what I mean.

I DO know what you mean! The feel HAS to be right. THEN the tone.

It's kinda the way I think about PRS guitars; they just don't FEEL right. Other non-Strats feel very comfortable, but for SOME reason, not the PRSs. And they are made just across the Bay Bridge from me!
