As some of you know I was going to build a guitar. After much deliberation I decided to start a modification project on an exhisting guitar rather than start from scratch.

I went and bought a black Blacktop Floyd Rose guitar. From there I let the juices going. I went with a HTH configuration. I have a push-pull switch 500k volume, 2 500k tone pots, Silver Pearloid pickguard, Chrome Knurled Tele Knobs, a neck SD Pearly Gates, a SD Tele Vintage Stack neck pickup in the middle position, and a SD JB in the bridge. I am also waiting on a chrome 5 way selector switch knob for the switch. This thing is super hot, perfect for Metal and Heavy Blues. This is destined to be my new number 1.

And for the unvailing:

Oh, yeah. I could see a guy doing some serious twidly-twidly on that (followed by a string rattling dive bomb, of course).

All I can say is this thing rocks. I was leery about the pickguard. It was supposed to be black pearl, but the one ordered was set up HSH. The Tele pickup does not fit correctly. I had this silver pearl for another project and the luthier cut it for the Tele middle. Surprising mishap.

I got away from FR equipped guitars, because I'm concentrating on playing blues. BUT, that geet looks sweet! :D

I may have to get me one of those! How about some audio samples please!

I would love to; however, my recording equipment SUCKS. I am planning on buying an USB microphone to use with my recording software. As soon as I get one, or some other decent recording device I will post some clips.

With the Tele pickup in the middle your guitar would become a serious twangbeast. Using the push-pull you can split the bridge pickup and emulate a Tele bridge single-coil pickup.

Although the custom Blacktop is suited primarily for metal and heavy blues, it can also be capable to cover a wide range of music styles.

Very nice! Could you explain what you did with the Push/Pull pot? Nice with the Tele pickup in the middle. I have used the Chrome Dome Lace in that type of a configuration before. Sounds like this beast is nice and fat sounding!

The push-pull pot is used to split the humbuckers.

The push/pull volume pot is used to split both humbuckers. Pull out for single coil and in for full humbuckers. 9 tonal possibilities. Very versatile guitar. The Tele adds a tone I have not heard before in a Strat. I am even more interested in getting a Telecaster now. That is after my other items on my wish list come first. Next purchase is going to be either a microphone or some other recording devise.

Have you tried a Tele bridge pickup in a Strat?

Here is a sample of the Blacktop. It is a bit trebley. Also first time recording using Audacity. The timeing is a little off, I was in a hurry to record and post.

I have not tried any Tele pickups in a Strat until this one. I am quite impressed with the Stacked Vintage Neck pickup.

Did you have another Blacktop Floyd Rose build in the works? Surely that guitar would have a triple humbucker (HHH) configuration with coil tap/split and the original Floyd Rose bridge.

I have no other projects in the works. I am keeping my American Standard stock. Same goes for my Squier HM III. My Blacktop has been finished for a few weeks. I just completed my Highway 1 converting it back to SSS. I am done with modifications on my guitars.
