Thanks

I'm pretty sure the material weight is the same (Alder), to the above post.
The used ash at the start in the 50's for a while. The only main difference is that apparently the routing is slightly different in the 60's strats (more crude, slightly different pocket angles (???, can anyone clarify?)).
Also, somewhere in the mid 60's Fender stopped using the method before for suspending bodies for the painting process (which was using nails hammered into the body to suspend it (giving it clearance of the painting surface, so it could be sprayed everywhere in one go).

So if I am looking at a 50's players issue versus a 60's players issue there is no difference in the body? How about if you are on line looking at bodies only and one is labeled a 50's body and the other is labeled a 60's body?

I thought maybe the 50's was the only one claiming "deep body contours" but now i'm not sure. I saw a few sites that used this term for both.
The pickgaurd screw holes are different on the classic players strats (fewer on the 50's), but thats all I know for sure.

The biggest difference between the two are really the neck radius. 9.5 on the 50's and 12" on the 60's (I'm talking about the classic players models, not true 50's and 60's strats)

BTW, I LOVE my Classic Players 50's Strat.

I think he is talking only about bodies not necks. ....And yes, you're right from 1959 onwards Fender used 11 screws to hold down the pickguard instead of 8 (or was it 9 ?)., but I wouldn't really call that a difference, just a few extra pin sized holes, that's all.

Thanks for the info. I guess for me the 60's is the way to go. Big hands / fingers. Now the debate would be Sonic blue or Surf green?

Are you building a new strat?I am....rite now am looking out for an Ash body with '57 routing and definitely deciding on surf green finish.

Already have the neck and the tuners...hopefully can get it done by mid-year..

Yes, I am thinking of building one. I allready have the most important part, the mint green pickguard.

I have a sunburst highway one that I was thinking I could strip down and have painted. I have seen the paint offerings from reranch but when I look at the paint jobs people have done with the spray paint cans I can not tell how good it looks. I am not sure with the finish on the highway one if I just sand it down a little and just shoot the primer. There is no heavy paint job that I am trying to cover up.
