MIM definitely. Some of the higher end Squiers aren't too bad though, e.g. Classic vibe. The prices reflect this.

No one can say which is " better " as guitars vary so much, even within a certain line. I am really big on the Classic Vibe line right now; I have owned both a CV Thinline Tele and a 50s Strat and both were GREAT guitars and, imo, sounded better with better build quality than most MIM.
You have to just get out there and play alot of guitars and see what feels right to YOU.

i once went to a guitar shop with a mate who wanted to buy a tele. while he was being given teh spiel from the shop guy, i didnt want to be standing round looking like a weirdo loner so i picked up the closest guitar that was plugged in and in tune - a mim strat. i wasnt a fan of strats, never wanted one, i just wanted to occupy myself for 10 minutes.

i ended up walking out with it. it was mega, felt great, looked great, is great. and it says 'fender' on the headstock, not squire. this counts in my eyes. i know it shouldnt, but it just does.

Look at a Squier Standard Strat. Don't think you can go wrong with it especially for $229.

MIM is superior to squire in every single way.
Squire is fender's more affordable and poorer quality sub brand, designed for begginers
Mexican made fenders are the real deal, they are just not quite as good as the US made

I recommend that you consider the Classic Series, and the Classic Player Series - seems to be a bit better than standard mim

Both Squier and the MIM Strats can be surprisingly good so there is no "better"one as such.Despite what some people say some Squiers are really top notch guitars and are on par with many guitars costing hundreds more.I only have one Squier but it's an outstanding guitar as is.Jeff Healy always used Squier guitars even after he made it big and could've used Custom Shop Strats exclusively yet he adhered to the"humble" Squier right up to the time of his death. If a Squier is good enough for Jeff Healy it is certainly good enough for me.

On a recent trip to my local music store I saw 2 beautiful Squier Teles-a Thinline and a Deluxe and the fit and finish as well as the playability and sound were just perfect.I've been playing and working on guitars for over 45 years and I can confidently say that I know quality when I see it and the Squiers of late are of unsurpassed quality when compared to other brands in their price range,in fact there is no comparison.

I'll let you believe this. This type of talk is only true if you're a headstock warrior who only judges a guitar based on price, not on the guitar itself.

Here's Jeff Healey rippin' it up on a Squier Strat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikHI7_PMFNc

Squier's Classic Vibe series line of instruments are of astounding quality, and so is their Vintage Modified series. And honestly, when it comes down to it for the US made guitars for Fender, you're basically paying hundreds more just for a "Made in America" sticker and different pickups.

I'm not saying the US made guitars aren't worth it, though some of them are just overpriced.

I think we owe the OP HONEST opinions on the Squier and MIM lines. We can all only tell of our personal experiences but in the end you have to get out there and play alot of guitars to find what is right for you.
I have owned ALOT of USA Fenders over the years. I love the USA stuff but Squier has really stepped up their game. Of course the Classic Vibe line is their " top of the line " but even their Standard series are very playable guitars.
I personally prefer the Squier CVs to ANY MIM that I have owned, including the one that I have now. That doesn't mean that theres not some nice MIMs out there, but, for my money, I prefer the CVs.
So, in a nutshell, I would suggest that if you can't splurge for a USA model don't neglect to try out the Squiers; you may find a jewel !
