Curious - which sound better - the out-of-the-box pickups on a MIM Strat or the Duncan Designed made-in-korea pickups on the higher end Squiers like the Deluxe and Vintage Modified?

I realize there are a lot of other issues to consider, but I'm trying to just the difference just on the pickups alone.

Thanks

To me, these that you've mentioned, all sound the same. As always, YMMV.

This is very interesting question. I hope that somebody who played both guitars: Fender Standard MIM and high-end Squier, like Vintage Modified gives the answer. Sorry for my English, but it's not my primary language.

While were at it, these two new deluxe squires look really nice. One model is equipped with Duncan Design SC-101s... has anyone tried this guitar or heard the pickups?

I own a 1996 Fender Stratocaster MIM with HSS pick-ups, and a 2004 Fender/Squire Deluxe series Fat Strat with Duncan-designed pick-ups. The humbuckers sound very similar, with a nice hard rock tone. It is the 2 single coils that are quite different. The MIM Strats single coils sound a bit fuller, with more mids and output. The single coils on the Squire sound thin and have less output. Almost as tho they are out-of-phase sounding, if you know what I mean. I know a lot of people on these forums trash MIM pickups, but in comparison to other Strats that I have, they sound pretty good for the money.
As a general rule, I like to swap out stock pickups for aftermarket ones, but on both of those Strats, I have left them stock. I have 2 other Strats with EMG pickups, and really like them for a full, clean, clear sound.
How much do you want to spend????
