I bought a Robert Cray MIM Strat in blue last week, and this past Sat night was my first night on the gig with it. Loved the tones, and the overall performance of the guitar. Not as heavy (weight) as the '89 Les Paul Studio I had, so that offered some relief. A couple things I noticed tho-I was so used to playing the Paul for the last 4 years that I had some trouble with fingering positions and I had to watch my hands a few times to make sure I was in the right fret. I kept playing sharp or flat cause the Fender fret spacing was different than the Paul. I kept reaching in the wrong place for the pickup selector switch, and I did kinda miss the low end chunk the Paul had. But the clarity and the tones from the Strat were well worth the switch.

Switching guitars can be as tough as switching amplifiers on gig night. No matter how much you practice you still hear and feel major differences when the lights go down and the volume comes up.

Les pauls are just so thick and heavy and uncomfortable.... Strats for life man! Although I know what you're saying about the les pauls fat bottom end.

I can relate. Back some 20+ years ago I was a Strat player exclusively. I bought my first Les Paul and never looked back, until recently. I have bought 6 Strats in the past year and NO Les Pauls; I love the tones I can cox out of a Strat, even decent L.P. type tones. Its much more comfortable to sit and play with as well as alot less weight while standing. Im sure I will always keep a Lester around but I think Strats will be my #1 from here on out.
