A quick report on last nights show. It was at a very nice, newly restored, ornate old theater. Great place to see a show.
Seriously loud! It'll be a couple of days before I hear anything but the sustain from Joe's '59 LP Burst. He played that guitar more than any other, using it for about half the show.
Words can't describe how Joe has become one with his guitar. He hardly even looks at the fretboard as he plays, he's so in tune to the feel of it. He does a number alone on a small acoustic that's plugged into his rig. He keeps the bass line going while he shreds spanish style. He throws in these quick, hard accent chords that have the effect of a snare drum, and he basically becomes a one man band with this little accoustic. He works his butt off. The rest of the band each gets a break at one point. But Joe is out there working it every second of the show. I never even saw him take a drink of water.
The rest of the band is as good as Joe.
Here's the Fender content: Joe came out for his first encore number carrying an old blonde Telecaster and used it to do the title track from his new CD that's just coming out. I think the title is "Driving into the light", but I could have gotten it wrong, I'm still fuzzy. I wouldn't mind knowing the story on the Tele. It was old and has seen a lot of action by the looks of it.
Joe thanked the fans for sticking with him even though he's never had a hit song. He mentioned that his first gig in L.A. was 10 years ago, at a bar on Pico with four people in the audience, and he was very appreciative that he could now sell out a beautifull theater like we were in. A class guy.

I guess if you own a famous guitar like that then lending it out to top players is a good way to get VIP tickets to gigs, and probably the after-show party too.

Cheers - C

That sounds like a plan Ceri! Now, how can I get hold of a famous guitar...

That's the one. It was good to see him walk out with it and use it for the title track of a new release. Maybe there's hope of breaking through the Gibson armada.
