Take a look at this, it sure looks fake to me.

Not sure The guy has good feed back and giving a 7 day return policy so if someone bought it they could find out for sure in 7 days. Just my thoughts

Yes, he does look to have good feedback, but there is no dark wood round the truss rod hole and the two centre screws are not offset on the trem backplate
I thought all fenders had offset screws and a dark either plug, or surround to the truss rod hole at headstock end

There are two basic points. As for the seller and the return policy...any chance he doesn't know it is fake?

I've bought and purchased several guitars on Ebay over the last 8 years. I've always thought people who list items with only a few photos, means they are trying to hide something. When they list an item for more than $1000, they better take a lot of pictures.

Should there be an additional hole on the neck plate for adjustment?

"Old Black Betty" ??? What's that about?

The pictures aren't good enough to really tell. Does it say "Made in USA" or "Made in Mexico" on the headstock?

Hi Ted: I believe I'm seeing a walnut surround to the trussrod entry hole, but I did notice the non-offset middle screws on the backplate. I guess there could be an excuse for that, if a guy had modded the guitar with aftermarket parts and the replacement backplate came that way, but you'd definitely expect to hear about it in the text and see the price adjusted accordingly.

Even if the body and neck are real the guitar is certainly heavily modded. Putting that together with the absurd screed he's written and the ludicrous buy it now price and our reaction has to be; "Oh p-lease!"

As of this moment he's had two offers. I wonder how low they are?

Cheers - C

Hi Ceri
Yes, I think I can see a darker surround, well spotted.
(The pics, considering the price he wants are terrible)
You're absolutely right about maybe it's been modded, but there is no way I'd ever go for it,
there are enough, new models for around that price anyway
Regards, Ted

The spacing of the six bridge screws holding the tremolo plate to the guitar is that of a MIM. One needs to look no further.

This seller needs to find a job with General Motors, writing ad copy for their marketing division.

Just think of all the Chevy Volts they'd sell!

I avoid any kind of ePay auction that is all talk and no show. Man if I bought that Strat I could sound like everyone from Hendrix to Ozzy (Ozzy, umm, as if I would want to). Custom Shop? Where is the pict of the CS logo??? Nuts, I would not touch this guitar with a 10-foot pole!

The plug around the truss rod hole is walnut, and it has 22 frets, same as on American strats. He lists the origin of manufacture as USA. It says made in USA on the headstock. I believe that at least the neck is made in USA

He also calls it an '89, Custom shop, Eric Clapton blackie, and a custom build.

I don't buy into the hype. I don't think it's a fake, but it may very well be a parts-o-caster.

He also calls it "all Fender". Not sure I'd believe that either.

The BIGGEST turn off for me about it is the seller's OVERKILL in his sales pitch. That's the thing that makes me suspicious.
