Hey all. I'm looking for a strat body for a new project and found this on ebay:

I was wondering if any of you can tell just by looking at it if it's a MIM body or what. I know sometimes you can tell by the horns, etc that it just doesn't look right. I'm planning on using an old Squier Korean E Series neck, Fender American bridge, and some Semour Duncans to create my own baby. I contacted the seller but just found it on ebay and it only has a few hours left and if you ask a question this late in the game, you might not get an answer. Also, anyone know what kind of wood that might be?

And yes, I know you normally pay for what you get but we can always hope to find that diamond in the rough.

Got a reply from the seller. They bought it at an estate sale and know nothing about it. They were told that it looked like a Fender body but even the estate sale folks didn't know for sure. I looked at their normal sales and it was old plates etc. They did sell some old ceramic pickups with double magnets on them rather than the single magnets I normally see. Maybe a MIJ Squier body???? Just don't know. Anyone else have an idea?

I only have the slightest idea. From what it looks like, I don't believe it's an MIJ. The circular indent near the neck and middle pickup usually only appear on Mexican or American bodies. So, I'm thinking it's probably a Mexican. I could be wrong....

I'm thinking it's a MIM now too. Been comparing it to man many other bodies on ebay. Thanks for the reply. I may just buy it. I'm thinking MIM alder body. My 89 E Series Squier neck should fit nicely. Now to break it to the wife.

Well it's only $18.50 with about 2 hours to go. At the rate it's going you'll probably get a decent price, so less of a burden on the wife . I think you should just go for it; it will make a great project guitar! Would love to see the results on the forum!

Did you win the body?

nevermind. I went to cook, forgot about it and lost it for nothing. Good grief!!!

Oh well! I'm sure there will be a cheap fender mexi body waiting out there that will be calling your name in the next couple of days It's alright, it happens! Better luck next time, right?

Awe hell, since I didn't win the body, I decided to get in touch with Mike Gee and he's gonna make me a guitar. After I lost the body, my wife felt so bad she said I should just buy a guitar. I've been looking at Mike on youtube and ebay for a few days now and got the bug to see what he could do. So after talking with him today, I'm gonna send him the neck I want to use and he's going to build me a Gilmourish strat. I changed the specks a little as far as pickups and I like the black on black on black look.

Things tend to happen for a reason. I just wasn't meant to buy that body!

The next time you see an unknown body like that for sale, ask the seller to measure the spacing of the six tremolo holes. Wide spacing means US, narrow spacing means Mexican.

Even if you bought it, you'd have to figure out which type of bridge would work on it.
