Own Strats with both single & buckers. Red writing on the p/u means "hotter" sound. Blue supposedly meaqns "cooler". Gold means whatever.... The older buckers you could take apart and have 2 singles Or leave together & split/phase them with a dpdt/dpst mini switch. The Lace are great p/u's fer sure. Let me know if you need the wiring diagram for the split/phase & I'll send you to the web-site.

later mahn

i was more asking if the LACE brand were fender laces or just a different manufacture all together... i have laces (red silver gold) in my usa standard.... i know that the fender laces used like 16 pole pieces under the covers somehow... these LACE brand pick ups are buckers with a regular bucker pole pieces... seeing if these where good pick ups before i buy a set.

That video is a great review of the product. Fender put them in the Strat Pluses and the Claptons. Don't know the politics about why Fender switched. There's some yadyada about Eric preferring the new Fender Noiseless over the Lace product but for me, the Clapton guitar was far superior originally equipped.

I wouldn't be surprised if it had to do with some politics between the companies, likely licensing or royalties or full control. When I my CS strat was built they were asking a different price point to put Lace's in the guitar so I went with the SCN's.

If anyone knows the inside skinny on this, share.

Thanks.

yeah that video explains an aweful lot.... my laces on my strat are GREAT.. i wanted to make sure i was looking at the same high quality product... i am still debating what pick ups to put in the 96 project though.. the guitar has been abused through the years and i want it to be a power guitar i think...and play really well... undo some damage i think... noiseless are made by fender..therefore cheaper for them to use in the guitars.

i remember when the noiseless came out... the logo looked so cool, i wanted to buy a new strat just to drop them in for a super redone vintage look. i really love the laces.. i love the rich balanced smooth tone.. but face it,.... its cheaper for a company to use "housebrand" parts and it looks like that companies name is a bigger better product.

lets all face something right now--- all these pro players sound is so digitized that it doesnt mean $@!& to what pick ups or amps they use.. all of their sound is recreated in studio, filters or rack gear that costs more than our mustang and both acuras.

I'm also a huge Lace pickup fan and I have a few different sets. My favorites are the Hot Golds. You can put them smack under the strings without worrying about magnetic issues and they just come alive. The harmonics and sustain are great. A lot of folks like the 13k Hot Gold bridge pickup because of it's fatter tone signature, but I really like the 6k version at the bridge with it mounted right up as close to the strings as I can get it. It just wails like that. You could never do that with any vintage 6k pickup. Here's a recording I made with my set of 6k Hot Gold Lace Sensors that sort of gives you the flavor...

I've had a few different sets in my Strats. They sound pretty good but I prefer other brands more. Two things that stood out about them for me were that they were fairly quiet and the highs didn't quite scream like I was used to with more typical Strat pickups.
