Lots and lots of photo's are really important. Its possible the guitar comes back is not your own. Do you have a NO RETURNs clause?

I have about 15 high-res pictures of the guitar from all angles so provenance of what I sent shouldn't be an issue (I hope).

Being in the UK, if you sell something using a BiN auction you're obliged under the Distance Selling Regulations to offer a full refund if a buyer chooses to return an item for whatever reason. The law was designed to protect consumers from rogue internet traders but it's also had the effect of turning eBay in to a 16 day home approval resource.

Where did the guitar go to Mick.

I'm in the UK and would like to fight your corner. I'd like to contact the seller and ask why he thinks that body is not Fender. It's pretty impossible to see a difference from the outside. About the only difference is the neck pocket.

He's in the Midlands. Providing what comes back tomorrow is what I sent I'm happy to take it back, I kinda regretted selling it to be honest. If it all kicks off though I'll post up the full details.

Thanks again everyone, it's been pretty disheartening these last two days  .

I just hope it comes back in the same condition it left.

I have a guitar listed on Ebay at the moment and had to go in and change my return policy to "no returns" for fear that something like this would happen. It's unfortunate but at the end of the day you have to protect yourself.

Afternoon guys.

Just a quick update: The guitar arrived back today & it appears to be 100% intact, all the screw heads line up with the pictures I took prior to the sale. I've had a play on it again & I'll be keeping hold of it.

I'm off to drink mucky beer for 2 or maybe 6 hours now. I'll get the hood up in the morning & post some pictures to see if it is what is supposed to be.

regards

Mick

Glad to hear it worked out OK.

Cheers,

This is another trick they use - post the serial number of the guitar instead of the year it was manufactured. This guy is flogging a special as brand new when it was actually manufactured back in 2009. The novice is hardly going to start looking up the serial numbers - or so they hope.

That looks right to me, the pots are CTS & the cap / wiring looks stock to me too. I'll defer to you guys though, what do you think?

Unmolested and original IMO.

He couldn´t keep the guitar (money) so he had to find some excuses.
Glad you got it back without issues.
Maybe that guitar wants to stay by you  It´s a keeper 8)

Cheers,
Robin

Um - did you even look at the ebay ad? Did you even bother to look up that this is a dealer - in fact a very well respected dealer for PRS (one of the top 5 largest PRS dealers in the USA), Fender CS and Production, and one of the largest inventories of boutique gear? I've purchased quite a bit of gear from them over a few decades, including the last CS Strat I owned, 5 or so PRS, a Gibson historic, my current Collings 290, and a couple of boutique amps. I've played some killer CS Masterbuilts there, some handmade guitars from small luthiers like McInturff (in his current incarnation as a one-man shop; they were also a dealer when he was small production), Nik Huber, Carr amps, Dr. Z amps, etc.

It looks like this is new old stock they are selling through their ebay store so yes it is a new guitar that they've had since 2010 (also were you aware that the first batches of American Specials were built at the end of 2009 and therefore have Z9 serial numbers even though they were not shipped out by Fender until January 2010) and as an authorized Fender dealer they would also be held by their dealership agreement with Fender to some kind of a special "close-out MAP" as the price they can list for the guitar on their ebay store or risk losing their Fender franchise.

Please don't get in to an argument over this fellas, it's all turned out for the best.

Today I installed a gold anodized plate, tweaked the set-up & I'm digging it so much that I'm keeping it. I think we were meant to be. Thank you so much for all your advice & kind words.

regards

Mick
