On this custom shop strat the pickguard screws are not visible. Anyone have any idea how that was done?

Hi mhowell: that's the Jaguar Cars CS Strat. I seem to recall about 30 of them were built to order for that company, encorporating various characteristic Jaguar features such as the same burr walnut on the pickguard and fingerboard which is used on dashboards in the cars. The lettering and leaping jaguar fret markers are real gold, too. And though it doesn't look it in the photo the body is Jaguar's British Racing Green.

Most of them were given to Jaguar executives as perks, but our own Forum user Alain la France owns one of them and told us that the pickguard and spring cavity cover are held in place by tiny magnets set into the body. So that screwheads don't spoil the line of that gold pinstriping on the walnut 'guard. Neat, huh?

Cheers - C

Magnets!? Really? So the pick guard can just lift off? Hope the magnets are strong enough to keep it in place while playing.

Thanks,

If Alain looks in on this thread you can ask him. I've a feeling that might be a photo from his own collection you have in your top post. He can tell you how that actual individual guitar plays.

I've a feeling the Custom Shop will have made the pickguard magnets work just fine. 8)

That is gorgeous!

Hopefully the Fender electrics are better than the vintage Jag electrics: "Lucas Electrics, the Prince of Darkness".

I hate to question the man himself. But I seem to remember Alain saying Fender used the same clips to secure the guards that Jag' used to fit the dashboard.

Hopefully he'll chime in.

Great guitars played no'15. At PMT Brum about three years ago. A bit out of my price band at £15K though.

Nevada Music had one too, for which I think they were asking £17,000 / $27,000. Mind you, I think it waited to find a buyer for a long time.

If Alain looks in he can confirm whether it's clips or magnets. My money's on magnets, but if I'm wrong I'll happily stand you a drink, Nick! :D

We had a Racing Green X-Type from new for ten years. In that time it once developed a minor fault with a rear wheel sensor but apart from that ran without a glitch for a decade. Superb. Goddam, it ate fuel though...! Still miss it.

You could nearly buy two of those Strats for the price of the car. Nearly...!

That's funny.

I would have to switch out the saddles. I palm quite a bit and those type of saddles really irritate. Then again if I paid that much for a guitar I'd probably be to scared to play it anyway.

Cheers,

It probably clips on like internal trim body panels of a car....
