Okay, here's one for you. I can see there's a lot of experience here and I'm baffled.

I purchased a Fender Select Strat. This is a new model. I pre-ordered it and it arrived a week ago. I took it home and played it. Really nice. Gorgeous piece. Great feel, action and tone.

BUT

The case, which is contracted by Fender to G&G, does not seem to properly fit the guitar. It's a bit too short. So, when you go to place the guitar into the case, the hard foam ends are so tight that they turn (unavoidedly spin) your high e (1st string) tuner, which de-tunes your instrument.

I know some will say this is a small thing. I think, for the money, it should fit.

Any ideas on a solution? I hate like the devil to break out the box-cutters and go at it.

All cases are the same size as are all strats.

Without meaning to imply anything, are you putting it in the case correctly?
Can you post a picture of the guitar in the case with the lid open?

I don't have any experience with the G&G cases, but some pics might help Denny. If you're talking about the block of foam that the headstock rests on it may be a tad too wide. I wouldn't break out the boxcutter yet no sense in cutting anything till somebody with some more experience comments on this thread. :)

"Putting it in the case properly?"

Regardless of whether the body or headstock is placed in first, the foam blocks are so tight and rigid, they strongly nudge the the high e tuner, and spin it.

As to posting a pic, I claim procedural ignorance.

I have a Custom Deluxe Strat and I can confirm that the G&G case it came with does exactly the same, nudging the high e tuner, but it really doesn't bother me.

At least you can rest assured that the guitar's such a tight fit, it's not going to slide around in its case...

See in my picture, that is the G+G case. That is the only way those cases come. There is nothing anywhere near the high E tuner. There is a clear 3/4" between the Low E and the compartment. I don't see how the tuners can be contacting the case if the guitar is being put in the case properlyl.

Same with this one

@Nikininja: Same problem here:

This is my Custom Classic from 2011. It was delivered in this case and yes, the padding does touch the first string tuner. When I put the guitar into its case, the tuner detunes.

Cheers

That is a complete puzzler and the first time I've ever seen it.
Your case foam lacks the cutout all three of my cases have.
Strange???

I have to add one more thing: I don't consider it a problem. Okay, it's very snug. Let's call it tight. We all love tight, don't we? Okay, you have to tune the guitar after you take it out of the case. But you have to tune it anyway. On the pro side, you have a very well fitted case, the guitar won't move a bit. I think this is better.

Cheers

My AVRI 52 Tele's high E tuner also touches the foam, but the smaller tuner head doesn't press in enough for it to detune:

I have encountered this before and have posted pics in the past comparing the two types of interiors.
Some cases have a much thicker padding.
I used a small block of wood on either side at the ends of the case with some cloth between.
Taking care not to damage the case I then tightened the blocks with an adjustable wood vice to "prematurely" compress the padding at the ends.
The strat will then fit much easier but of course will be slightly looser in the case.
Take care and proceed with caution. :D

I don't see an issue with the OP's case but just to be clear -- G&G does also sell a Strat case intended to accommodate a reverse headstock (but right-handed) guitar. It carries a different P/N from a standard "rightie" case and the bolsters at the headstock end are configured differently. I know because I ended up with one on an Ebay purchase and the P/N on the shipping carton did not match other G&G cases I've bought as brand-new. It was nigh impossible to fit a standard Strat into but it holds my Strat 12-string perfectly.

I have the same thing going on with my US Ash strat and the G&G case I bought for it.

Other than de-tuning the e string, it doesn't seem to be causing any other issues.

It's a bit worse with my Tele.

This was an idea I had floating around in my head to solve the problem. I think I'll try it.
