It looks clean, but I can't see the S/N clearly. It looks like a, "N9." It should start with a "Z2" or maybe "Z1" if it's early in the year. I would want to see if the tuning keys are staggard, but over all the guitar looks ligit.

So it turns out that the S/N starts with "N9". That would make it around a '99. The lack of "Custom Contour Body" decal would be accurate for this version of the Stratocaster. It all seems to add up then.

You should know that Strats from the late '90s (Am. Std), the '00s (Am. Series) and the current Am. Std. Strat have some differences. Here are some of the differences.

Am. Std. Stratocaster (Late '90s - 2000):
Speghatti Fender Logo
Swimming pool pickup routing
Am. Std. pickups

Am. Series Stratocaster (2001 - about 2010)
"Custom Contour Body" decal
More accurate body contours
Rolled edge fret board (neck)
Staggard Tuning keys
1 String tree
More accurate 3 pickup routing
and staggard pole piece pickups
partchment plastic parts.

The New Am. Std. Stratocaster (current version)
Improved bridge block
vintage style saddles
CS fat '50s pickups (I really like these)

For myself if I were going to buy a basic American Strat I would go with the current model.
It kept all the really parts of the Am. Series Strat and improved on it's short comings. They are really nice guitars.

I hope all of this helps and good luck!

From the photos I also say it looks like a legit circa 1999 American Standard Strat.

I did want to point out that as a circa 1999 it could have either the swimming pool route or the current-style HSH routing under the pickguard. Fender kind of phased that in on the American Standards over the time period from mid-1998 through all of 1999; by 2000 they were pretty much all HSH unless they found an unused swimming pool routed body back in the warehouse.

From what I have researched over the years it would have been by batches of bodies - as Fender used up a batch of say black bodies with the swimming pool route in say late 1998, the next batch of black bodies would have the HSH routing. You'll find one color with a swimming pool route that was assembled and shipped after another color with the HSH routing; it seems like it took them over a year to run out all the swimming pool routed bodies.
