Just picked up a MIM Robert Cray Strat at the local Music Go Round. I've always wanted another hardtail Strat. Altho I like the guitar, I'm always a little scared of what might of been done to it as far as changes I couldn't see. The last owner had put on graphite saddles and straplocs, but it's the electronics that always make me wonder. Is there any way I can tell if the P\u's have been changed out? Also, is there any quick fix if I end up having noisy pickups? The guitar hasn't got a mark on it, not even a pic mark. The only real let down was a Guitar carry bag instead of a real case. I know when I worked at a music store back in the early 80's, every guitar had a case.

The RC pickups are specific to the instrument -- the middle and neck will have traditional staggered magnets (a la the 57/62 set) while the bridge-pickup's magnets are even all the way across, from the E-to-E strings. The wiring features standard 5-way switching, with an Oak/Grigsby switch and full-size CTS pots.

You will need to "disembowel" the guitar to ascertain the wiring details.
