Hi, I'm from Switzerland, sorry for my English...

I bought this Strat and have some questions, could you help me ?

Some pictures bellow. "RELIC" visible on the body, as "60 NOS", is that possible ? No serail number in the body, CS logo visible in the body.
Neck base, "RELIC" visible too, JC and HG initials... what does they means ?
Dated 6.2000 (pencil) under the small piece of paper.
Neck has a lot of birdeyes, Fender Logos not well glued, fixes after the finish, wich is normal for a '60. I got the certificate, with the serial number printed on the plate.

Thansk for your help.

Looks ok.
Most of the bodies are marked relic even if they have a nos finish.
Pickups look like what one would expect with the bevel clearly evident.
Most likely legit particularly if you have the cert and matching neck plate.
Is the fretboard a slab?
JC stamp is good!
Hope this helps :D

Yes, it helps, thanks a lot.
And yes for the slab.
But what "JC" means ? And "HG" ? Initials of the builder ?

Yeah I have to agree the positioning of the decal is a little off but most of the rest looks ok.
Not sure about the wiring and the cap but this too can vary.
I see you added some pics and yes a slab board.
JC is an inspection stamp. How old is the strat. I may be wrong but I heard John C was inspecting early 2000.
Maybe if you email Fender with your details i.e. serial number etc they will give you more info.

Thanks,
Dated 8/09/2000 on COA.
I've heard on '60 model, the decals where placed after the varnish.

I believe that Hector Gomez was a name mentioned before, could be the HG.

And, two heads are better than one, right?

Found in a forum...

The HG initials on the neck heel suggests that the neck was shaped by Herbie Gastelum, a long time Fender and CS employee.

Or Hector Gomez...

Or Harry Gotter :-) Is that my guitar MAGIC ?

Ok I've been pondering this but have refrained from posting. Because a few things don't add up.

Usually the relic, closet classic or NOS stamp are in the neck or middle pickup route. Along with paint details and a code number.

Image

That code number matches a neck code.

Image

I've blocked the numbers out in that picture.
They do this because unlike production line guitars, the neck and the body are made specifically for one another.

I only mention this because you seem unsure of the guitars origins yourself. Which to my mind is the big warning sign. The decal, the markings are all more than explainable. But I've never seen em like that before.

I had this '96 1956 Reissue flame top apart to do some fret work. It's about ten years older than my Custom Classic. Yet the markings were very similar.

Image

Note the neck builder (Oscar Pallares) didn't just initial the neck. Also I can tell you point blank that Fender Custom Shop do not use neck shims. Ever. That is a quote from Mike Eldred, said on these boards. The neck shim on that guitar was put in by the previous owner. And was the cause of 90% of the guitars playability problems.

I'm not saying one way or the other what the guitar is, whether it is or isn't. Because I don't know. Fender Custom Shop have used lots and lots of different markings. One for every builder then add another three each for when they change their minds. It's unfathomable to mere mortals such as us.

Your best option is to post the question to Mike Eldred in the "Ask Mike Eldred" section of the forums.

You should avoid these messages that make me look like a liar...

I own 5 guitars, decided to sell 4 because I've no time to play... what's the problem ?

I bought myself all of them, directly from 2 differents autorized dealer in Switzerland and in USA, except this '60 one.

The problem is that you are selling the guitar as a Custom Shop and now come here and ask if it's legit. Maybe it's not, what then? Nikininja already stated some doubt.

Cheers

Check the date of my posts (6 april) and the date of the auction (11 april) !
I checked the points before try to sell it !
I also have an answer from Josh McGee from the International Consumer Relations that confirm this guitar is not a fake.

He probably just came back with the details based on the serial number? The doubts I have here is if the parts belong to one guitar. And as long as there are doubts, I would not sell it as a CS. But that's just me, you can do whatever you want - after all it's you who asked for our opinions, and this is mine.

Cheers

David
