I believe the HSS version has custom-staggered Tex-Mex singles (but I'm not sure if it has the DH-1 or Diamond Back humbucker).

The SSS Strat has American Standard pickups (which are often erroneously referred to as 'Delta Tones'). These are basically the same pickups that have been used on the American Standard Strat since 1987 but with a slightly hotter bridge pickup and staggered magnets.

Regarding your friend's 2007 (Mexican?) Standard Strat; it uses the Standard ceramic bar magnets with steel poles which - I believe - has been unchanged on the Standard Strat since they were introduced.
