Thanks again for every ones help on this. If anyone finds out more on this guitar or thinks of something else, please let me know. I'm still a bit confused on the year or is it just a mix of different years? I'm happy to get straight answers from this group.

Rock On! .... I know I will !

I don't think that it's a mix od years. Fender makes factory parts in mass, so when they build guitar (especially back in the day), they grab whetever neck is lying around.

Even today my 2001 EC Strat I ordered through a music store, has parts with dates from '00 on the neck and body. So basically my '01 is really an '00 EC Strat.

So what does every one think this might be worth? It belongs in a collector or real guitar players hands, not mine.

If you want a real good estimate of the value, contact Gruhn's in Nashville, you'll have to pay a fee but you'll get documentation and then you can sell it for a lower price...most of their estimates are high ...imho.

Ok, here's what I've be dealing with for years now about this guitar. I'm sure you've all read the post on here, but this is what others are saying too.

1. It's stripped of it's original finish,as well as other documented issues.
2. It is a late '64 neck.
3. The later "F" plate w' the serial # definitely raises some questions, if it was a true '64 it would have an "L" before the serial #.
4. The body is NOT mahogany.

This is why I'm getting every ones feedback. :?:  :?:

I'll take the contrary position. I do think it's a mix of years and parts. The neck pickup seems to be a late '70s. The other parts seem to be a mis-mash: neck, neck plate, etc. What date is on the pots?

It's hard to date the body. The dowels are quite visible, so I do think it's vintage, however.

The neck troubles me. The date and the headstock don't seem to match up. I almost think the neck is a Jazzmaster neck with its decal removed, but it's got a Strat code, so it might really be doctored up. Can we see a close up of the headstock, please?

As for value, you'd be quite lucky to get $4000 for it IMO.

I found a good vintage guy here in town and he pretty much told me what everyone else has been saying and some extra too. He even said my case was a mid-late '50's. So, looks like I have a '64 Strat that was refinished and has some replaced parts. But all in all is still a great guitar as is.

I'm Kool with that .... Time to play!

Just at face value the neck is wrong. For a strat it cannot have a 64 stamp and a large headstock.
As suggested it could be from another model or the stamp has been added to a later neck.
My own view is these are parts from various guitars possibly post the CBS takeover.
Here are some pics of a friends 64. Note the yellow stamps on the pu and this was only done in 64. Please ignore the wire which is obviously not correct.
Had a lovely tone though. The pus really had some depth.

Hi Johnny35: no, close as can be certain it's not mahogany. It's a lighter coloured wood that has darkened with age, though the grain pattern is unusual and makes it hard to say for sure that it's alder, at least from photos. Though I believe it is. However, the dowels that OrvilleOwner refers to near enough definitely confirm it as a vintage Fender body rather than a copy, I think.

I have nothing useful to add, but that's certainly an interesting thought. If the parts have been mixed up that much then the undateable ones can be almost anything.

Of one thing we can be sure:

Those strings are genuine vintage!
