I'm looking for some info on what is Original, Whats not and a value of my guitar. I was told after running the numbers that it's a 1967, The neck and tuning keys are not OG Fender I'm guessing, but what about the body, pick ups and knobs? Any good or bad news would help. Either way I love playing this guitar! Sorry if the pix are huge.

Take apart the guitar and look for date stamps.

+1. From the pics, the neck, saddles, neck plate, knobs, pickgaurd, all look original...body has correct looking belly cut. The Tuners are not period correct.

All this is of course a cursury look from what the pics show, take the neck off and take pics of the neck pocket, butt end of the neck, and remove the pickguard and pics of the underside of pickup will give us more info to CONFIRM what I think is correct. Tell us or pics of what you find.

Pickups are not original - no stagger.

Definitely not a '67 neck (big headstock since '65), I'd guess not even a Fender of any year.

The bridge is all rusty, but the neck plate looks brand new, and the serial number dates to '65....?

Curious about the underside of pick guard and body routing.

Does anyone else smell fish?

I was very curious about that as well. I can't really make out what they are, but I did some research and according to the book, "The Stratocaster Cronicles" right around '67 Fender moved to the in house "F" style tuners. I don't know if they where the same as the ones from the '70s (tuning button that were chromed plastic).

The pickups look staggard to me. Are you saying that they shouldn't be or should be?

I'm not sure, but the head stock looks pretty big to me, but won't know anything until the owner sends some photos from under the pickguard, the neck and body dates.

I really love threads like this one. It's like CSI: Fender. There are some really knowledgeable people all working together to solve a mystery.

It's also nice because I get to learn more and see some (when they are authentic) examples of great guitars.

:D

Neck looks not that way off, maybe headstock was reshaped. Look for stamps and dates thats the best thing to do.

Cheers,
Robin

Thanks to all, I'll start taking it apart today and get the pictures you asked for. I like what Paris said about this being like CSI: Fender. Haha! 8) :?

Taking it a part then providing photo's of the insides is the best way. At the moment, it appears someone completed stripped all the finish off the body and neck...

Neck is real Fender! Body looks to be Mahogany (that is somewhat rare) and routed correctly it appears but the neck pocket shape looks a little off, could be just the photo angle. As for the pickups, I think they might not be genuine 65, don't remember them being dated like that, could be reissues or custom shop. As for the bridge saddles being rustier than the bridge plate, that happened alot with older guitars and even the reissues...the saddles are stamped Pat Pend and Fender which is period correct.

FWIW
