For that price it probably is!

There are a few things with the guitar I don't like. The obvious removal of whatever decal was at the end of the headstock. It wasn't the "Original Contour Body" decal.
And a lot more worrying is the CN prefix on the serial no'

Image

At best a Squier series. A remnant of Fender's takeover of the Squier plant in the early 90's. Not bad guitars at all. I still use one as my main stage guitar now (that's mine in the picture). Every bit a Fender, logo'd Fender. Fender USA body and neck, Squier hardware. Most of which looks to have been changed to American spec on that guitar. Tuners are split post and the trem looks like a 2point as on the American Standards. Neither of which were on the Squier series guitars.

All in all, I'd go to see it with the money in my pocket. If it played well, I'd buy it. Nice looking guitar.

yeah i just checked the serial number, and the CN prefix is the Korean Squire.
did not give a date, said it was unknown.

There is no guarantee of that. Custom Shop used the CN prefix in the 90's also.

I really don't think it's Squier but a Squier Series

It didn't give a date because Squier serial numbers don't date the instrument. Squier Series it would be 93 if the serial reads CN3.

Niki's right - the removed label did indeed say Squier Series. I have two of those guitars that I bought used in the mid 90s. I paid $95 for one and $130 for the other - great guitars for the money.

The guitar shown should be a good deal, especially with the case!

If it plays nice and it's in decent shape it might be worth a gander.

Not a bad case for it, either.

The older squiers are worth a lot more than newer ones. However, I wouldn't pay any more than $175 for one.

According to the new Squier book of Tony Bacon: "CN prefix ("Made in Korea or Crafted in Korea") "N" indicates the Nineties (1990s). The first figure of a following six-digit number provides the production period, but manufacture may continue into the next year or years.

In the same book you see a picture of a headstock on page 51 which resembles the one mentioned and there it says "Squier" on the scratched place.

I don't know wether I am allowed to quote the book but it says something about Silver Series "Squier" renamed by Mexico "Fender" with the small Squier part. I am sorry but I don't really understand what it is ment by this. Stupid Dutch
