Hey,

I currently have a Jasmine, Takamine that I have owned since i was 15. I am now 26 and about to make a big move in my life back home from the Navy. I want to get e new guitar since mine is on it's last breath. Fender has always been a favorite of mine (even named my dog Fender) just need some advice on which to get SO..I am Intermediate, self taught but i can jam, love acoustic blues, folk, Ray Lamontagne, Damien Rice.

I want something that my big $@! hands can maneuver, wont kill my leg, or make my strum arm go dead..six two 240lbs...I want the sound to be soft but boisterous..my Takamine cant take a pic because she is so timid and my fret board is bent, i have to use light strings and finger pick alot..but it can be quiet so i want something that can amplify that with or without an amp...any sugegstions would be awesome..

Case

Hi txwisky,

No guitar recommendation, but you can adjust the truss rod in your Takamine to straighten the neck.

Hey,

I tool it to get some TLC a while back, just to get that sort of thing done. The guy that was doing the work said he could turn that truss only so much. My neck is fragile and he could bend it...its not a best of the best guitar so i accepted it...now needing a new one

do you want an electric or acoustic?

electric squires and mexican standards are pretty good

a great cheap acoustic would be a seagull

If you like the Jasmine why not upgrade to a 'real' Takamine........

I have to say, the new Yamaha APX and CPX guitars are great. I have a 10 year old CPX 8M and the thing looks battered and bruised but plays and sounds better every time Iplay it. They have quite small necks though so maight not be ideal for you.

Seagulls and Simon & Patricks have quite a large neck, made across the road from each other and almost identical in most ways.

ALso, the Eastern made Breedloves, a bit more expensive again, but lovely guitars

All in my own opinion obviously.

I havn't tried a Fender acoustic for a long time...............there's a reason for that I'm afraid.........but they are maybe a lot better now. Your Jasmine, IMO(again) is probably a better guitar.............

I have the same thing about Fender acoustics,
I have never heard one that sounds decent enough to make me want to buy one.
I thought it must be my ears, as I see so many out there, then again I have never looked in the $1500+ range.
Maton, Yamaha, Seagull etc etc ... All good but it is what your ears are hearing that really
matters.

Seagulls are nice and not to expensive. I also like the Epiphone Masterbuilts. Not half bad, but since this forum section is about stratocasters, I'd point you towards a Jimmy Vaughan, Robert Cray, or Kenny Wayne Shepherd Strats... Big necks, not to expensive (especially used), and they are a big step up from the standard mexican produced strats...

Don't overlook Larrivee, they make some of the best bang-for-the-buck acoustics around:

I recommend something like this;

70s Guild D40 NT

If you have a grand or two to spare, look for a Martin, Taylor, or a Gibson... But for budget reasons, there are many guitars well under $600 that are quality made, good sounding instruments.

just go to a guitar store and spend some time going through all the acoustic guitars until you find one that fits well for you ~ Never mind what name brand it is.

Remember never buy a guitar in a store that leaves dead or worn out stings on the guitars that are on display. If they're too lazy to keep the guitars in premium condition for you the customer to try, then they're not worth buying from.
