Apologies in advance but this a pet peeve with me BUT What planet are Gibson when they ask $7300 for a guitar?

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gibson-Cust ... 2378116.gc

OK it's a "signature" model, then after all, aren't all Les Pauls? It's supposed to have been designed for/with Paul Kossoff, so frackin' what? A hundred dollar or even two hundred dollar premium is just about acceptable but $5500 on an already over priced guitar is outrageous.

Let see how long it is before DHGate are offering a $300 buck copy on-line.

Not so much a Paul Kossoff more of a taking the p*ss of(f).

I agree, but the only reason that guitar is available is because there's people willing to buy it. I don't fault Gibson for making some money off of people that have more money than they know what to do with. At least Gibson offers very similar features on guitars much cheaper. Gibson has always been the more expensive alternative. A '59 Sunburst Standard was $650 new. That was a pretty good chunk of change in '59. J.Giels '59 Burst is on Ebay right now at $250K. Do you think it plays or sounds much better than a $2,500 LP?

Why the fuss? Seems to me that both Fender and Gibson are on the same planet, but I don't hear you complaining about this:

It's the old story, as long as people are foolish enough to pay these astronomical prices, Gibson (especially) and all the rest will continue charging them. If everyone got together and refused to go along with this long running insanity, you'd see the prices drop overnight. Unfortunately, there's always that handful who have more money than sense which shall keep this gouging alive in perpetuity.

As always, the above is merely IMO where YMMV.

they wouldnt make it if there wasnt a market for it. Some huge Kossoff fan will probably buy it and gibson will make a profit off of it.

Great....I'll show these to my wife first, and then I can convince her that the price of an American Deluxe Strat HSS is quite a bargain!!!!

I like to wear Ralph Lauren suits to work. They make a basic label that I buy for about $300. They also make a hand stitched, fully canvased suit made from premium materials for over a grand a pop. That is waaaaay more than I am willing to pay for a suit, but I'm not going to go on the forums and blast RL for making something for customers with fatter bank rolls than me.
Gibson and Fender make millions of instruments for budget minded players like us, but if they make a few hundred reliced sig models, everyone freaks out like are replacing their entire catalog with $7000 guitars. 95% of the instruments they make are for us everyday players, so don't get your panties in a bunch over the handful of super expensive collectables they put out.

Here's part of the hype that makes a $7k guitar:

Hi jnastyNE: you're right. Frankly, that's entry level money for a handmade suit. And anywhere other than the guitar world $7K is nothing to get excited about for a quality instrument. The world is full of classical players paying far, far more than that for working instruments, for instance.

Guitarists just don't appreciate how good they have it.

Cheers - C

No doubt.
A girl I know from Uni that plays weekends for a local symphony dropped 8 grand on a French concert violin built in 2001. She's not even a full time pro, and says other chairs have spent 2-3 times that for their instruments.
You can get an all original, mint condition sunburst for chump change compared to what you would pay for a beat up Stradivarius.

It's all relative. It comes down to who is willing to spend 7K. I spent $399 on an Epi LP Standard. Is mine that much different than the Gibson? Maybe in the fine details but "after all it's just wood and strings."

Or this, the STUPID-EST (yes I know that's not a word) guitar ever made.

$6.5K for a guitar someone took a propane torch to. Sweet.
