Im looking for a strat and I haven't been able to try any out in a while so my question is, what is the strat for me. I love hendrix, I also deeply enjoy clapton and cream. I also like Rush but perfer Hendrix over anyone in the world. Thanks so much.

How much can you spend ? Vintage ? Modern ?
There are so many of them, so tell us more.

Virtuallly any strat can do Jimi. Just get yer butt to a guitar store and play as many as you can in your price range. You'll find one that fits your needs.

There was only one model back then. It was just the strat.

He especially liked a Olympic White Stratocaster with maple neck and
fingerboard with large headstock, 1968/69 model.
The Mexican Classic Series make this model.

I think that the Jimmy Vaughn strat would really nail the JMH sound and many others... you can hear it at Fender.com... about $675 street.

Exactly. Mines a 72. They all had and mine still has a three way switch. You could order different necks, colors and hardtail as well as left handed models.
You may be able to find a reverse Strat. The only Strats that could really do Hendrix was the ones Hendrix played.

There were pre CBS (small headstock) and CBS (large headstock) Strat's
in those days. I've seen pictures of him using a pre CBS Stratocaster.
Also a choice of maple or rosewood fingerboards.

CBS bought Fender in 1965. The big headstocks have been around since then. Hendrix also used CBS Strats. As did Clapton and George Harrison.
Strats lost some of their popularity because of the large headstocks as well as other things. One piece maple necks also came back after they were dicontinued. My 72's a one piece maple neck. At one point they had a maple fingerboard.

I wouldn't get too cought up in trying to get a guitar like the one Jimi played. Instead, I think you should find your own sound, style, and preference in guitar. Everyone is influenced by someone else. in your case Jimi is yours. Trust what you feel and you'll see you'll develope a style of your own and you'll notice it's a bit of everyone you've been influenced by . The relationship between one and his/her guitar is a very personal one. Get out there play all kinds of guitars and see which one talks to you
