i am looking at installing lace sensor pickups in my 2009 mim strat. according to their website they recommend 250k pots and a .022 mfd capacitor.

what pots and capacitor are standard on the guitar? if it came with 250k pots i am set- but if not, should i switch to the 250k?

i am kind of new to this stuff, so be gentle please

250k is standard for single coils. I'm pretty sure the tone Cap is 0.047.

I'd just do the swap, leave all AS IS. Then if you feel the tone might need some tweaking maybe swap out the tone cap for a 0.022. Note that the value of that cap only has an effect once you start twiddling the tone knob. If you always have the tone "right up" then it doesn't really matter what sort of cap you've got there.

I'm sure someone with more experience will soon chime in.

The cap is a .022uf. Notwithstanding, you've explained it most succinctly!

Thanks Martian. It must be the Tele that has a 0.047cap?

PhreddyB make sure you let us know how it turns out.

You're welcome.

Over the years, Fender has messed around with the microfarad value of their caps in many of their instrument models. I just happened to know the value of his particular model Strat off the top of my head. It's really no big deal though for exactly the reasons and remedies you've mentioned.
