I have been working nights for 2 months now. I have every 14th night off. Not much to do, since everyone else in the house is asleep. So I decided to open up my git and see what's in there. It has Vintage Noiseless pickups in it. Here's what I found:

I read about this hole being here. Not really a problem, just weird.
Image

Here's tone pot #1. It has a ceramic .022 cap, and a 1 Meg pot. Is this right?
Image

Here's tone pot #2. Which is also a 1 Meg pot. And the cap is bridged from pot #1.
Image

Here's the volume pot. Looks to have a treble bleed? It is hard to tell, but I think it is a 250K pot, but not sure. To many grounds soldered to top of the pot.
Image

Here's the whole pickguard assembly. Looks to messy to me.

My question is, is this factory wiring? Or is this a mod? I love the tone, but I do plan on putting in a good PIO cap, but not sure of capacitance I should use.

i believe that hole is used to put the body in a machine to hold it properly

http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en ... 9,r:5,s:27

this body has three but i think some have one, two, or three.

dont know about the wiring though sorry

According to this, your wiring is correct:

I was gonna check the service diagrams, but forgot. I got too excited about posting pics of my naked Strat!

Since turning 40 last year, this forgetting thing is happening more frequently. Thank goodness my head is attached!

The p/n list is full of info. I had no idea I had a bone nut. Ref#13 is the volume pot, but what is J-Taper? I know the tone pots are audio taper (A-Taper). Since these tone pots are 1 Meg, should I leave the cap at .022uf? Was gonna change it to .047uf, until I seen this.

From what I can find, it is a type of audio taper.

Yes it is a messy wiring , and I never see this kind of wiring on Fender 's guitar. It is a new wiring in use in Fender ?
Did fender had a new guy on training on this guitar to do this kind (of bad) job ?

Did you buy it new in a Fender'store ?

I haven't seen Fender wiring that wasn't a rats nest. Every guitar I've opened looked a mess.

Looks untouched to me. No obvious signs of old solder stuck to the pots.

Thats stock! The noiseless pickups use 1 meg pots also.

That's already been determined.

So I guess my only unanswered question is: Would I benefit from installing a good PIO cap or should I just let it be? The guitar sounds badass already, a little on the bright side, but nothing a twist of the tone nob doesn't cure. I just have some extra caps I would like to use. I have a couple of Vitamin T .022uf and a couple of Vitamin Q .047uf. I'm upgrading my Epi, so that's why I have these extra caps.

I've been wrong before (just ask my wife) but I think the three holed bodies are from the Mexican factory and the single hole is U.S. - they're for assembly line processes.

I use 0.022 mfd Orange Drops in all my guitars with no complaints. I don't believe the hype attributed to all these fancy caps.

The difference in capacitors is really very negligible.

It will affect the taper of the tone pot way more than it will affect the sound of the guitar. And even that is only a miniscule effect on the taper.

Don't waste your money mate.

Money has already been wasted. I have worked so much overtime the past two months, that buying these caps did not hurt the pocket book at all. I just figured that since I have them, then I could use them.
