Absolutely Highline, in every industry there are these leeches that would suck the blood of those with an interest in product. Preying on the unsuspecting out of nothing but greed.

People like you, (and, I would like to think, me,) aren't likely to be taken in by anything short of a brilliant counterfeit. But these scammers prey on people without vast knowledge.

I've been one of those preyed upon people. Back in more innocent, ignorant days I bought a neck from a guy I was told was a '60s spec reissue. Nowadays I can see at a glance all the things that are wrong with it and show it's an aftermarket neck with a fake decal. Back then I didn't know, took someone at their word and paid accordingly. Hardly life or death, but tiresome. Lesson learned.

Sometimes people who buy fake stuff they should have known more about are to blame. But always people who knowingly sell fake stuff are to blame.

I don't like cheats and am always on the side of anyone who's against them. I don't feel remotely "het up" over any of that. It's just about common honesty and respect for others.

Hi-five to Amerigo/David.

Cheers - C

i think fender has to make a cease and desist order and send it to them but there are probably dozens of companies that do this and there are international laws that you have to follow so i assume its hard to do.

If you see a crime being committed, do you report it or turn your back and hope someone else does?

I think ricardo.ch is not even aware of the problem. And I guess they'll react as soon as they hear from the holder of the rights. The same happened with fake Rolex. They were pulled.

Cheers

going after the small time offender is not really worth while. I suspect Fender would be more interested in shutting down a large operation. Shutting down smaller operations is more costly and less effective.

That being said, I hope Fender does shut down as many of these operations as they can. One of the reasons I chose to buy Fender is because they seem to hold their value on the used market.

Surely too many fakes on the market will hurt that resale value should I ever decide to sell my strat because of the uncertaintly of prospective buyers and the fact that less knowledgable buyers would go for the cheaper fakes, making my genuine strat harder to sell.

Where someone pointed out tha a lot of these logos are sold to kids who want to make their guitar look real because they want to look cool... they make themselves look like idiots once someone spots their trickery and exposes them.

Doesn't cost anything to shut down sales on public platforms. You just need to report the infringement to them, that's about it. They don't want to run into trouble themselves.

Well, if you grew up in the neighborhood I did, it would probably get you killed. "Capisci?"

Depends on what type of crime it was. If it was a murder or someone being badly beaten up, something like that, then yes i'd report it, but fender decals? nah! i don't think so, but then i've got better things to do with my time.

I think if you're getting worked up about things like that then you're in need of something to do. Get over it, there's more important things going on in the world.

Fender has more than enough money to fight their own corner they don't need amateur Inspector Clouseau's butting in.

I guess if this is a place like Craigslist, kijiji or ebay, yeah, usually alerting them to the problem is enough to shut down the ads of the seller. If you're talking about an operation that has it's own website it's a little more effort involved... I guess you could find out who their hosting service is and get them blacklisted. The more difficulty they have doing business and more costly it become to keep producing a fake product, the less likely they'll keep doing it.

Yes, it is. Ricardo is used in Swiss, German and Austrian market. Germany is quite important for Fender, methinks.

I'm sure selling anything with a fake brand or trademark is illegal across the European Union, so it should be simple enough to stop stores and trader supplying these and selling online. Stopping the person who makes them will be another matter as Switzerland is not in the EU, however Switzerland must have laws to prevent fakes being marketed and sold.

When it comes down to it, it's the decal that identifies a Fender as being a Fender and the knowledge you are buying a genuine article not a guitar build from various unknown parts.

I would hope Fender take this up with the EU and Switzerland.

Individuals could also contact there MEP and inform them. Fakes devalue the brand and the value of the instalments people own.

Hee-hee: I suspect this might be going a little far. But it would certainly give them a surprise!

Might be going a bit far I agree Ceri, but would highlight the problem. I would hope Fender would take action, especially as they are apparently about to go public on the US stock exchange.

Cheers
