The following story is true. It has to be because they guy that told me looked honest.

When an elderly friend of mine found out I was an avid guitarist he shared this story. It takes place in Ohio in the early 90s.

The neighbors of my friend left on a week long vacation. It rained the entire week they were gone. When they returned there was a rather large cardboard box sitting on their stoop soaked. The shipping label on the front was unreadable and other neighbors claimed the box had been there since the day after they left.
Assuming the contents must be ruined, they found the invoice on the box in plastic. The only information on the slip of paper showed the item cost $2,599 and it was already paid for. There was also a return address to Fender in CA.
The box was then covered with plastic and stayed on their stoop for 3 more days while they tried to have the box returned or forwarded to it's owner. Fender was politely unhelpful. The delivery company said they couldn't do anything but they delivered it to the right address. They couldn't make any headway but both Fender and the Delivery company said they would note the item was ruined due to weather. The following week after getting no where, they put the unopened, tattered box next to the garbage cans for pick up. My friend said the garbage men tossed it in the truck without even looking twice.
If that doesn't make you cringe nothing will.
What would you do if you were in their position? I know what I would do. What box?

so let me get this straight... a guitar or amp (you never said what size or shape the box was) they did not order was delivered to their door while they were away on vacation. when contacting both the shipping company and Fender, they were told there was nothing they could do because the box was delivered to the correct address.

Ummmm.... yeah....

personally, after making the attempt to get the box to the rightful owner if I was told they couldn't do anything because it was delivered to the correct address; I'd have opened it to see what was inside and if it was in fact still usable.

worst case scenario it is ruined as they suspected and I would toss it out, best case scenario by some miracle it is not ruined and I have a free guitar or amp or whatever it was. :)

So I guess the moral of the story is to make sure the place you are ordering from has your correct address.

BS!

Although a stupidly unbelievable story, this certainly isn't the place for such nonsense.

wow, someones a bit crabby. so I guess this is a forum exclusively for the preening peacocks comparing "strat" sizes?

since the invoice said guitar I could only guess it was a MIA guitar and from the price i would guess a custom shop.

I threw the shenanigan flag too but if anyone had heard him tell the story they would believe it. I probably didn't do it justice.

I can believe it.
My neighbors went on vacation last month and asked me to keep an eye on the place.
They had two large parcels arrive and they were left right out in the open in front of the door.
I went over to pick 'em up, wrong address. Called the shipper.
They said they'd come pick 'em up and try again.
Those boxes are still sitting out there.

When ordering online and having something shipped specify that it requires a signature for delivery (no signature requires the driver to bring it back) or leave specific instructions where to leave the product if you're not going to be home. I work for Fedex Ground and I know the drivers are under pressure to finish their routes in a specific time and start their pickups in the early afternoon. This is true of any delivery company not just Fedex.

PS: dfrain sounds like a good neighbor. Which reminds me dfrain we're practically neighbors since I live in York co.

I can believe it. I once bought an expensive guitar from a vintage guitar dealer, When I got home it was left at the front door. They didn't knock on the door. Or look for a signiture. My parents were home, & I found it sitting outside.
The box was easily recognizable as a guitar. It could of gotten stolen Or ruined.
This was in the 8o's & $1500.00 was alot of money back then? It still is?

 Yeah, up until the part where the story started changing, oh and the first post where he assured us that he would lie about the package.
